I saw The Fray for the first time in 2007, my first concert. Now on their 4th studio album, The Fray returned to their home state to the 1st Bank Center packed full of their hometown fans. American Authors, a Brooklyn, NY based band opened for The Fray and got the crowd and the screaming fangirls warmed up. The Fray balanced their set with new singles and old favorites such as "You Found Me". 9 years after the first time I saw them, they're as captivating and talented as ever.

The Motet brought the funk to the Ogden for a second sold out night in their self-proclaimed second home town. Colorado has a soft spot for funk and jam bands and it shined through as everyone danced the night away. After a quick set break, we were treated to a "1979 Mixtape" where the band came out in 70s attire to cover bands such as Earth, Wind, and Fire. The Motet couldn't have brought more positive vibes and funky music if they tried.

She made a surprise appearance on stage and left the crown in awe at the last Red Rocks show of the season.

Cherub killed it last night as they headlined Red Rocks for the first time. The night certainly started off with a bang as openers Boo Seeka, Friendship and Gorgon City amped up the crowd for what was to come. Once Jason and Jordan hit the stage the crowd became intoxicated with excitement as the boys jammed alongside their new added band to classics and new soon to be hits off their new album. Earlier in the day Cherub sat down with 303 for an exclusive interview and photoshoot. From which they had enjoyed our golden skeleton so much that they added it to the stage decorum. The crowd was dressed in creative Halloween costumes, including some classic Cherub album cover attire. If you have ever been to the Larimer Lounge you can understand how intimate the setting is. The crowd pressed against the stage as Lewis Del Mar played above and around the crowd. This year's Denver Zombie Crawl was a grotesque spectacle of blood stained ghouls haunting the 16th Street Mall. After this show had ended I wondered if I had taken anything unusual before I left the house. From the moment Of Montreal took the stage in black cloaks with smoke protruding from them the audience was set to go for a wild ride. The entire show was like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", "A Clockwork Orange" and "Alice in Wonderland" all rolled up into a music video. With multiple costume changes and appearances from some of the wildest creatures ever imagined this show kept everyone guessing at what might be coming next. Of Montreal's music has always sparked the imagination and their live performance brought the things you'd see in your head to reality.

The Paramount Theatre was full with people of all ages on a Monday night for the Alessia Cara show. Ruth B. opened the show and captivated the audience with her smooth vocals. Alessia then stole the stage with her undeniable talent, relatable lyrics and genuine nature. Though she's one of the biggest up-and-coming artists, she spoke to the audience as if they were all her friends. Many had their hands up the whole time and passionately sang along to her raspy and soulful vocals.

The Boulder Theater creates an intimate and amazing sound. That combined with the lively Strumbellas and Cold War Kids made for quite an amazing show. The first night of the Great American Beer Festival went off with out a hinge and beer drinkers united in costumes, pretzel necklaces and one in a pretzel, beef jerky ammunition belt. No only were her self written songs on violin captivating, but she danced a mixture of ballet hip hop while playing. After a last minute venue change to accommodate the lighting and visuals that accompanied the band, spectators were presented with a unique light show involving lasers, LEDs, spotlights, and projected images. The brilliant lights complemented Sigur Rós' dazzling sound and took the crowd on a journey they won't forget.

Die Antwoord got freaky at The Ogden Theatre this past Monday. This South African Hip Hop / EDM group consists of two lead rappers Ninja and Yolandi, and DJ God, whose style and charisma is unlike to any seen in the US. Fans of Leon Bridges filed into the Fillmore Auditorium off Colfax in Denver, CO. Opener Lianne La Havas woo'd the crowd awake with soulful chords and a british accent. Leon Bridges took to the stage with his radio single Smooth Sailin' followed by a large collection of dance moves circa 19050. The melodic downtempo beats of Lotus took over Red Rocks Amphitheatre last night. Those smart enough to sit up at the top of the amphitheatre witnessed a blood red moon rising over the horizon for the last bit of El Ten Eleven's set. Tycho followed El Ten Eleven, playing their sweet tunes at Red Rocks for their fourth time. By the time Lotus came on the moon was high in the sky, as their music carried fans high into the night. What a show to not miss! Last night legends Blink 182, A Day To Remember, and The-All American Rejects stopped by Denver and threw a party, and yes there was beach balls and confetti. The-All American Rejects had their classic songs we all know and sang along to for getting us all ready for the night. After that A Day To Remember brought even more energy and giant beach balls! Opening with 'Downfall of Us All' had everyone jumping, which is good because the lead singer Jeremy came into the crowd running inside a giant hampster ball! The group lived up to their expectation as one of the most anticipated acts on the summer tour circuit playing a set mostly consisting of Rage's most known tracks, as well as hits from Public Enemy and Cypress Hill.

It really did “seem like Happiness, Everywhere” this past weekend in Telluride, CO as Pretty Lights and his loyal tribe filled this sleepy mountain town with groovy vibes. Derek Vincent Smith teaming up with his five piece band and the infamous Laser Shark hypnotized the crowd with rainbows of lights, deep bass and funky electronic tempo. Returning for the fourth year, High Plains Comedy Festival brought a fine selection of comedians to South Broadway and the Paramount Theater this weekend, delivering laughs with every performance. With live tapings, game shows, rap battles, improv stand-up and more, High Plains represented a broad spectrum of comedy that pleased just about every demographic. Of course, there were some topics that kept cropping up—like weed jokes, the income inequality between men and women and (parents, cover your children’s eyes) dick jokes. Yes, those were in full force this weekend and the audiences could not get enough. 303 Magazine checked out the busy scene and gathered some highlights for those of you who missed out on the laughs. Shakey Graves surprised Denver with a free concert this Saturday in Denver. Located off 17th and Lawrence, the show took place on hidden plaza above the city. Sponsored by Budweiser the theme was saturated with patriotism. Almost all of the performers, which also included Pandas and People and Head for the Hills, stopped and asked the crowd to "raise a Bud" for America. The crowd happily obliged. Cheers! Sarah McLachlan filled the Pepsi Center with her amazing musical talents and she shared stories and the inspirations behind her songs, including one guy she dated that turned out to be an asshole, as she called him. Josh's performance wowed the audience not only with his amazing voice, but with his humor, stories, and support from an orchestra band. Josh also shared his love of Colorado and enjoying his two days off around the state among his many interactions with the crowd. Two live performances you will want to see again and again.
