Hindsight: Underground Music Showcase
If the festival's attendance figures are correct, The Post's Underground Music Showcase is indeed on pace to become Denver's version of South by Southwest--an event it eagerly compares itself to. SXSW, gearing up for its twenty-fifth year, pulls approximately 15,000 heads to Austin, Texas. The UMS, which just closed the books on its first full decade, is already approaching 5,000. No small feat at all. The scene on South Broadway yesterday—especially last night--definitely reminded me a little of SXSW's main artery in Austin--Sixth Street.
Aural Pleasure: Flobots In-Store @ Twist & Shout
Flobots frontmen Jonny 5 and Brer Rabbit have known each other since childhood, and their rap rapport is a testament to that fact. Witnessing them trade tongue twisters the other night was a sight worth beholding.
CD Report Card: DJ Dragon – HomeGrown
Dragon, one of Beta's resident DJs, recently orchestrated another Mile High milestone: Homegrown. Compiled by the Triad mascot, Homegrown is a mixed CD consisting primarily of Colorado producers. Pretty Lights, Shawn Astrom, Ty Tek, Venaccio, Satori-C, Entropy, Lea Luna, Sonaris, mLe, Shawn Mitiska, Joman, Sir Thomas, Jquintel, Manufactured Superstars, Dirt Monkey, Savoy, Kostas K, Samples, Jontron and Dragon himself are among the individual artists included.

Immediately following his SNL cherry-popping featuring instant holiday classic “Dick in a Boxâ€, Justin Timberlake was feeling cocky. Pun intended. In the middle of dinner at a Middle Eastern joint in NYC, JT shared plans to launch his own label with longtime pal Matt Morris. That's not all. JT wanted Morris's Hancock on a recording contract.
