Horse Play: Cavalia

Cavalia's star steeds like to horse around—pun intended. “Half the time, horse are totally free on stage. We created a huge stage to allow improvisation,” explains Normand Latourelle, founder of the multimedia equestrian spectacle opening Wednesday under the DIA-inspired big top. “It's the basis of Cavalia, to make sure horse find stage as their playground.”

Downtown Lowdown: Roll Play

Downtown Employee Appreciation Week is here, and The Denver Pavilions wants worker bees to have a ball this Thursday at lunchtime. Two of them, actually. Flaming Lips fans will recognize the eight-foot translucent spheres as frontman Wayne Coyne's crowd-surfing transportation of choice. Beta Entertainment Director Ms. Easy's got one too (she uses it at raves like Skylab). In this case, contestants will manipulate the aforementioned human hamster balls down Glenarm in hot pursuit of bragging rights, YouTube glory and even prizes. Downtown trivia will determine which "baller" gets the advantage. Tyler Perry's Shed G is set to emcee. We're not sure whose harebrained idea this was, but we like it. How does it show people who work downtown they're loved? Maybe participating in a simulated rodent race is more fun than merely being part of the proverbial one.

Sintertainment: Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity

Losing my shirt in a Vegas casino has never appealed to me. Witnessing acrobats and aerialists lose their shirts in a Cirque du Soleil production is a completely different animal. Zumanity, the only Cirque show with actual nudity, has been on my to-do list for years. Even before I collaborated with a former cast member on a performance for Denver's Suite 200, it was on my radar. I finally lost my Zumanity virginity Sunday night.
