Review: Smooth Hound Smith at Swallow Hill Music School

unnamed-1

Smooth Hound Smith played a charmer of a show at the Swalllow Hill Music School, last night. The charismatic duo played a set that sounded like a sweetly intimate Daytrotter sesh (check out their actual session here). Caitlin Doyle (vocals, percussion) and Zack Smith (guitars, vocals, harmonicas, foot drum) have an undeniably cute Johnny-and-June appeal, with kicky wit and down-home ease. It’s modern day Woody Guthrie meets the coolness of Ed Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes meets some rockin’ rootsy, bluesy folk.  His voice! The harmonica! Her pitch perfect Allison Krauss-ish tone. Hot damn, these are two to watch.
