Just Announced – DeVotchKa is Playing Two New Year’s Bluebird Shows

On December 30 and 31, DeVotchKa and The Sweet Lillies are taking control of the Bluebird Theater to celebrate the coming new year. Their New Year’s show comes at the end of a lengthy tour taking the group around Europe and much of the United States before landing them back home in Denver.

The multi-instrumental and genre-bridging quartet recently released their album, This Night Falls Forever which excellently portrays the broad range of musical talent the band possesses. Each song has a very different vibe and is played on a variety of different instruments, ranging from theremin to accordion and even includes an orchestra. One adjective can be used to describe the entire album — epic.

In writing the new album, frontman Nick Urata tapped directly into his past to find the proper emotions for each song. “A lot of people think the song is happening now — ‘you must be going through a horrible breakup right now.’ Really, I’m just getting in touch with the past,” Urata said on Facebook. “When you add music, it can take you right back there. Music is the great coaxer of those feelings, and that’s why people connect to songs. Music opens you up.” In listening to the songs, it is hard not to empathize with the emotions used to power them.

Tickets go on sale Friday, November 9 at 10 a.m. and will be available here.
