The new year is moving fast, but we’re lucky March is here because there are a ton of great events and specials happening around town this month. Read on to find out more about the mollusk celebration that is Oyster Days at Jax Fish House along with a kick-off dinner for the Cochon555 U.S. tour– a porc-loving, pride-fest you won’t want to miss. Also free pints of Little Man Ice Cream, an urban-bazaar, a pajama brunch and more…

What: High West Oyster Fest

Where: eTown Hall- 1535 Spruce St., Boulder

When: March 10, 6-9:00 p.m.

Cost: $50/person

The Low Down: Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar will be celebrating “Oyster days” throughout the month with a few different events and specials including its third annual High West Oyster Fest. The festival will feature the fifteenth annual oyster eating competition and the third annual oyster shucking competition. The night will also include a variety of different Jax food and drink favorites like peel n’ eat shrimp, crawfish gumbo, chicken and sausage jambalaya, cured salmon, and more. There will also be a special guest appearance by Oscar-winning director of The Cove, Louis Psihoyos, and music by Denver DJ Styles Davis. All proceeds and donations from the evening will directly benefit the Colorado non-profit There With Care.

Month-long Oyster Specials

The Low Down: 

  • Each week one Jax location will announce a community oyster day on Facebook the morning of, where shuckers will dish out free oysters for 30 minutes.
  • Enter to win a $100 gift card by taking a photo of yourself sucking down oysters at Jax on instagram with the hashtag #JaxOystergram
  • Get a dozen oysters and be entered in a raffle to win a dozen free oysters per month for a year
  • Each week one Jax chef will design signature specials inspired by oyster-loving cultures from across the world
  • National Oyster on the Half-Shell Day, March 31- expanded mignonette and granitee menu
  • $.10 of every oyster shucked at Jax through the month of March will go towards There with Care organization.

Red Cross Month

Where: Participating restaurants include: Ale House at Amato’s, Breckenridge Colorado Craft, Cherry Cricket, Session Kitchen, Wynkoop Brewing Company, Breckenridge Brewery, Mainline Ale House, and Phantom Canyon Brewing Company.

The Low Down: The month of March is marked as Red Cross month, and in support, the Breckenridge-Wynkoop Group of restaurants will be showing its support to the Red Cross a few different ways. Throughout the month, all participating restaurants will feature the signature Red Cross dessert, red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and chocolate sauce, two for $5. $1 of each dessert sold will be donated to the Red Cross Colorado Disaster Relief.

Cochon555 U.S. Tour Kick-Off Dinner at The Nickel

When: March 6, 7:00 p.m.

The Low Down: Denver’s beloved, The Nickel and Chef Chris Thompson, were chosen to kick off this year’s Cochon555 weekend in Denver with a chef’s course dinner. This one-of-a-kind traveling culinary competition will start off at The Nickel with an all inclusive five-course dinner – themed “A Nickel Bag of Porc”- paired with the best beverages. The dinner will emphasize one hyper-local ingredients and responsible agriculture. Guests can expect to be guided through conversations from the kitchen and a chance to mingle with friends and family of Cochon. The event will definitely be night of great food, great drinks, and a great showcase of culinary talents.

The Low Down: Can’t get enough of the creamy, cold goodness that is Little Man Ice Cream? Well you’re in luck because starting March 3, Fat Jack’s Supersubs will begin selling pints of Little Man Ice Cream including the favorites,  16th street chocolate, space junkie, and salted oreo at all five locations. But it gets even better because Fat Jack’s will be giving away 1000 free pints of ice cream. Starting March 4, one free pint will be included with the purchase of a sub (one per order) whiles supplies last.

Pajama Brunch at Whisky Tango Foxtrot

When: All month long

The Low Down: Don’t you hate having to choose between getting dressed to go to brunch and never having to leave the comfort of your sweats and thermal? Well you don’t have to worry about that anymore. This month, Whisky Tango Foxtrot will be introducing pajama brunch and welcome all jammy-donning patrons, and they’ll even reward you for it. Come in your pajamas and get ten percent off your food and enjoy a free bloody mary, mimosa, or glass of beer. Brunch starts at 10 a.m. on Sundays.

Friday Night Bazaar

Where: 3530 Brighton Blvd., Denver

When: Every Friday night, 6:00 p.m.- 12:00 a.m.

The Low Down: Starting this Friday, there will be a free weekly event in the up-and-coming RiNo district. The event will be held in a funky, renovated warehouse space and will feature all great things local including chefs, artists, and music. There will be plenty of cocktails, farm-fresh food, and food trucks. The beer pawn booth may be reason enough to check out this cool weekly event, where you’ll get the chance to trade up old, unique items for drink tickets or other old and unique things.

When: March 5th, 6-8:00 p.m.

The Low Down: La Biblioteca is back with its monthly Meet the Maker special event. On the docket for March: Arte Tequila. Tequila makers of Arte Tequila will be hosting a complimentary tasting event and sharing a lot of tequila knowledge with guests. There will also be a cocktail feature with the specialty tequila all evening.

Barbaresco with Claudia Cigliuti at Frasca Food & Wine

When: March 9

Cost: $50/person for four courses, not including optional wine pairings

The Low Down: James Beard winner and 2015 nominee, Frasca Food & Wine, will be hosting a dinner with Claudia Cigliuti. Cigliuti family estate is known to create some of the most profound and long lived Barbaresco’s from the Neive based crus of Bricco di Neive and Serraboella. This all red flight will focus on the structured and highly expressive wine, Barbaresco.

New Menus

New Burgers at The Capital Grille

The Low Down: Starting this month, The Capital Grille, located in the historic Larimer Square, will be adding four new, delectable burgers to their menu. Each burger will be made with the highest quality beef in the U.S., Wagyu beef. The burgers will be:

  • Gorgonzola and Black Truffle Wagyu Burger made with gorgonzola and black truffle “butter” and balsamic-glazed onions
  • Kona Crusted Wagyu Burger that will have bibb lettuce, tomato and shallot mayo
  • Wild Mushroom Wagyu Cheeseburger with havarti and 15-year aged balsamic
  • and Wagyu Cheeseburger with havarti, sunny-side-up egg and crisp onions
