Makeup Breakdown: “ The Midas Touch”

Genlux‘s Spring 2010 shoot by BrakhaX2, with model Lydia Hearst, reminds us all that a little extravagance doesn’t have to stop with our clothes, and that Gold can give almost any complexion that warm, sun-kissed goddess look, with very little effort.  So, let’s breakdown some of my favorite metallic products and gain some insight into our own Midas touch.

Dolce & Gabana Ultra Shine Lip gloss in Gold: This lip gloss can give an extra bit of warmth and shimmer to your bare lips, or can glitz up your favorite trusty shade of lipstick.

Make Up For Ever Diamond Powder in Bronze 4: This stunning powder can be worn as an eyeshadow or dusted lightly around your face as a bronzer. If you do use it as a bronzer, then be sure to keep the application light; you don’t want to look like you’ve been gilded!

Jane Iredale 24 Karat Gold Dust in Rose Gold: Give your cheeks that healthy glow with this all natural product which includes REAL gold leaf as one of its main ingredients.

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion in Sin: This double use product is beautiful if worn alone to give your lid a stunning champagne shimmer – or can be worn under any of your metallic eye shadows to add a double dose of glimmer, whilst staying put all day long!

Ancient Greek philosophers noted with the “golden mean,” that even when pushing for luxury, you still need to remember the “golden” rule; everything in moderation. The Greeks believed in three ‘ingredients’ to beauty. These were symmetry, proportion, and harmony. Words to beauty by, for sure, and work as good rules of thumb when using these products. If you can find the harmony in gold makeup products, then you’re “golden!”
