[Updated December 20, 2018 at 4:25 p.m.: Tickets are now on sale. The Ice Castles officially open on Friday, December 21, 2018, at 4 p.m.]

If you missed them last year — you’re in luck. It was announced that the Ice Castles are officially returning to Dillon, Colorado this winter, as one of six locations that will host the Utah-based ice attraction. This will be the second consecutive year the small mountain town will host the event, and professional ice artists are already preparing to grow and harvest the icicles as early as November. These will be used to build tunnels, fountains, slides, towers up to 40 feet tall and other carved attractions that will be illuminated with colored LED lights.

The Ice Castles were created when founder Brent Christensen attempted to build an ice cave with his daughter. After many failed attempts, Christensen figured out a successful way to craft the massive, ice sculptures and soon began creating the castles, which attract tens of thousands of people each year.

An estimated 25 million pounds of ice will be used to make this chilly, magical playground and residents of Dillon and the surrounding area are excited about the tourism revenue it brings to the community. We’re not surprised the Ice Castles are returning since Colorado definitely showed up last year with lots of families and groups booking their tickets weeks in advance.

The Ice Castles are scheduled to open on Friday, December 21, 2018. You definitely want to witness the magic for yourself.
