Free Yoga Events To Attend Near Denver This Winter

With the new year comes a slew of new fitness goals. What better way to reconnect with your body and mind than through the practice of yoga? Summer in Denver boasts a multitude of yoga classes in beautiful outdoor spaces like Red Rocks or Washington Park, but what is one to do when the frigid winter months roll in? Maybe there’s a market out there for those wanting to partake in Shavasana in the snow, but, for most people, that rules out all of the picturesque outdoor classes for now.

Here’s your guide to free, indoor yoga events in and around Denver to continue your practice throughout even the harshest snowstorms.

Free First Friday Community Class – Bass Heavy Vinyasa Flow

When: Beginning Friday, January 4, 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. 

Where: Five Wellbeing Studio + Spa, 5602 South Nevada Street, Littleton

Cost: Free

The Lowdown: Held in the Five Wellbeing “Shift” Studio in Littleton, the first Friday of every month will feature a free vinyasa flow yoga class. With this practice, you will learn to move with intent, align your breath, and celebrate yourself alongside a unique combination of traditional asana flow music and bass-heavy electronic music.

Where: CorePower Yoga (Cherry Creek), 2780 E 6th Ave, Denver

Cost: Free

The Lowdown: In celebration of the grand opening of a new studio in Cherry Creek, CorePower Yoga is offering a free yoga sculpt class on January 5. The Yoga Sculpt class is designed to boost your metabolism and build lean muscle mass. Moving along to upbeat music, this class combines the use of free weights, cardio, and strength training with yoga poses. This is the perfect opportunity to meet their community and enjoy refreshments after class.

The Lowdown: To further celebrate the grand opening, CorePower Yoga in Cherry Creek is offering a second class for free the following day on Sunday, January 6. The C2 yoga class will focus on strength and balance with the added benefit of detoxifying your body and mind. Featuring challenging poses, a focus on breathwork and an upbeat playlist, get ready to sweat. As an added bonus, new members at CorePower can receive a full week of free classes.

Mindful Mondays: Free Yoga

When: Monday, January 7, 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 a.m. 

Where: Circus Collective, 2041 Lawrence St., Denver

Cost: Free

The Lowdown: This Vinyasa flow style yoga class aims to help you reconnect with your body and breath in a relaxing, uplifting flow of movements. Moving to a diverse soundtrack of music to help you relieve tension and stress, Mindful Mondays will help energize you for the coming weeks ahead. They even offer essential oils and mini massages. Mindful Mondays are hosted every Monday evening, featuring classes taught by different teachers, varying services and sometimes local food vendors.

Yoga at Aurora Strong

When: Tuesday mornings beginning on January 8, 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. 

Where: Aurora Strong Resilience Center at 1298 Peoria Street, Garden Level, Aurora

Cost: Free

The Lowdown: Born from the devastating aftermath of the Aurora theater shooting, the Aurora Strong Resilience Center provides free and direct services for those who want to build personal resilience skills in order to manage stress and lead healthier lives. If this sounds like something you or a loved one would be interested in building for yourselves, don’t hesitate to reach out to their supportive staff. Beyond just their free yoga classes, they offer free tai chi, drum circles, meditation classes, and even mental health counseling. Be sure to bring your own mat, water bottle, and pillow.

Align and Flow Yoga

When: Tuesday, January 8th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Where: Catalyst Event Center, 1881 35th Street, Denver

Cost: Free

The Lowdown: Align your body, mind, spirit, and breath with this free class being offered by RYS 200 certified yoga instructor, Katie Marshall. In a practice focused on alignment and relaxation, this one-time class will provide an immersive experience with both verbal and hands-on adjustments to ensure proper form. Be sure to bring your own mat and water.

Greenhouse Yoga Series at The GrowHaus

When: Varying Thursdays and Saturdays from January 10 to April 27, 5:45 p.m. on Thursdays and 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays

Where: The GrowHaus, 4751 York Street, Denver

Cost: Free, with a $10 suggested donation

The Lowdown:  You’ve seen goat yoga, puppy yoga, hot yoga and more. How about plant yoga? This vinyasa-style yoga class is held in The Growhaus’ beautiful greenhouse space. The Growhaus’ mission is all about promoting healthy living while providing their Denver neighbors with healthy and affordable food. Come join in on the mindfulness and relaxation. While the class is technically free, they are grateful for donations to further their cause.

YourAshtanga Anniversary Open House

The Lowdown: Got a free Saturday coming up this January? YourAshtanga Yoga Studio will soon celebrate their one year anniversary with a full day of free “offerings”. These include a yoga class (from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.) with live music, a catered lunch, a workshop on setting your intentions for the new year, astrology readings and closing players. If you are up for a casual drive out to Golden, this open house event will fill your day with mindfulness and excitement.

Family Friendly Yoga at The Phoenix

Cost: Free

The Lowdown: Yoga doesn’t have to just be something you do alone. It’s a great way to bring every member of your family together and promote healthy living. The Phoenix provides a community for sober, active individuals rebuilding their lives after fighting with substance abuse disorder. They hope to help members rebuild their lives, heal and eliminate any stigma revolving around recovery. This yoga class is friendly for all attendees and encourages all levels of yogis to build strength and balance.

Take Root Yoga Class

When: Every Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., year round

Where: Take Root Brain & Body Development; 4907 West 29th Avenue, Denver

Cost: Free, donation-based

The Lowdown: Curated for all levels from beginners testing out the practice of yoga for the first time to experienced yogis, this “Core Yoga” will focus on breathwork, balance, movement, and focus while strengthening your body and core. Bring a yoga mat and water and come flow with CorePower yoga-trained instructor, Drazana Scherbl, in the healing Take Root space.

Many of these yoga classes raise awareness to benefit powerful causes while also encouraging attendees to reconnect with themselves. You don’t have to wait around for summer to take part in yoga classes. However, this is just a list of a few free community classes. Be sure to check out your local yoga studios and what they have to offer this winter. Start the new year off on the right foot, if you can balance on it, that is.
