After two years of serving Uptown with gastropub fare and, of course, whiskey and beer, Robert Thompson’s Argyll Whiskey Beer closed its doors after Tuesday night’s dinner service. “While Argyll’s been a project close to my heart, it’s also been a challenge based on a variety of things including location, lack of parking and space issues,” said Thompson.

While Argyll may leave a void in the Uptown dining scene, it affords Thompson and his team time and energy to focus on the growing empire that is Punch Bowl Social. “The closure will allow our team to focus on the Punch Bowl Social expansion and we’re pleased to be keeping the family together by offering all Argyll staff positions at Punch Bowl Social.”

While Punch Bowl Social boasts locations in Denver, Detroit, Austin, Portland, Cleveland and Chicago, new locations are slated for 2017 in Brooklyn, San Diego, Rancho Cucamonga and Phoenix.

Adelita’s Cocina Y Cantina has been dishing out tacos and tequila to South Broadway since 2013, and is now ready to introduce you to its sister—Palenque Mezcaleria. The haven for mezcal lovers opens today next door to Adelita’s with its focus on the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Sharing a kitchen with Adelita’s, a small menu of food is set to accompany more than 70 selections of mezcal. Guests can also expect several cocktails, but count on a knowledgable staff ready to get you into the help you find an agave spirit to suit your palate.

Chef Lon Symensma (ChoLon, Cho77) has taken over at Acme Burger & Brat Corporation in Union Station, turning it into Acme Delicatessen, a New York-style delicatessen. The walk-up deli features build-your-own sandwiches from $9.95-$11.95, as well as the Railroad Reuben ($12.95) piled with house-made corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and special sauce on rye bread. Symensma is also set to open a beer garden at Union Station in June.

The deli serves breakfast all day, every day starting at 7 a.m. with bagels and breakfast sandwiches, with lunch starting at 11 a.m.

Kevin Taylor to Open Hickory & Ash in Broomfield

After years of operating multiple restaurants including Palettes at the Denver Art Museum, Kevin Taylor’s at the Opera House and more, chef Kevin Taylor is opening Hickory & Ash in Broomfield with his son, Ryan Taylor. The forthcoming restaurant is slated to open at Arista Broomfield in March 2017, featuring a hickory grill, local beers, and craft cocktails. “We’re excited to move beyond our white-tablecloth roots,” says Kevin Taylor. “Hickory & Ash will provide a more casual, yet still very chef-driven environment, and we think it will be well received by those who live, work and play in the thriving Arista development.”
