Did you ever consider that your Mom might crave something more than the average, pastel-infused brunch routine? Maybe your Mom is more of a Xena Warrior Princess type than the read-quietly-by-the-fireside damsel. Perhaps she is so extraordinarily awesome that she contains both of these qualities and more, which is highly likely. Mix it up this Mother’s Day and entertain Mom with the Mother’s Day 5K, supporting a great cause and spending a beautiful day in City Park, melting away all of your Mother’s Day worries.

This upcoming Sunday May 11th, 2014 welcomes the 5th annual Mother’s Day 5K and it promises to be better than ever, focusing on Moms and celebrating with families from all over the metro area in Denver’s City Park. This year also marks some inaugural changes for the event. The Mother’s Day 5K has a new partnership with HERA and will donate a portion of your registration fees directly to their mission—to stop the loss of women from ovarian cancer by promoting Health, Empowerment, Research and Awareness.

You won’t go home on an empty stomach either; they are bringing brunch catered from The Garden, a local catering company from Park Hill. They will be serving brunch in the pavilion after 9:30 a.m. once the race has commenced. You can purchase tickets for brunch along with registration for the race. However if your prowess thrives on the sidelines, you can also purchase a brunch-only ticket. The cost of the brunch is $20 for adults and $10 for children; the menu has been crafted to be delicious and details can be found online.

The Mother’s Day 5K also features childcare options and kid-appropriate fitness activities with the health and movement gurus of Endorphin. So Mom can stay focused on achieving her 5K personal best, while everyone else can get up and moving.

This race boasts exciting prizes for the top three female and male finishers. Prizes will also be awarded to top Moms, Grandmas and Mom stroller drivers. Each participant will also receive a virtual gift bag from the sponsors. Keep your eyes and strollers at the ready for door prizes and the fun does not have to end once the race is over, all MD5K Moms can purchase discounted tickets to the Denver Zoo on the MD5K website. Time to lace up your shoes and break out the buggies; Happy Mother’s Day to your kick-ass momma.
