Denver has some lovely events lined up this week. Kick it off by getting nostalgic at a Steel Magnolias Movie Party and end it by getting rough at a Heavy Metal Flea. Wherever the week takes you, make sure to take a look at this roundup of events happening in Denver.

Steel Magnolias Movie Party

The Lowdown: Alamo Drafthouse Denver presents a Steel Magnolias Movie Party. The event features a screening of Steel Magnolias– the classic film about a group of ladies who grow together over time and hardships. You can participate with props, feel nostalgic and maybe even have a good cry.

Movie Night in Mirus

The Lowdown: Temple Denver partners with Mirus to present Movie Night in Mirus. The event features a screening of Black Swan– a dark story about ballet and the struggle of mental illness. You can grab a bite from food trucks, sip on cocktails and later watch two local short films created by local filmmakers throughout the night.

Best of Denver Fashion Week Exhibit

The Lowdown: McNichols Building partners with Denver Fashion Week to present a Best of Denver Fashion Week Exhibit. The exhibit features pieces that have graced the runways during some of the best fashion shows. You can find works from designers and brands such as Electric Bubblegum, Rachel Marie Hurst and Allison Nicole Berger.

Tuesday, February 12

Pony Pop-Up

The Lowdown: Zeppelin Station presents a Pony Pop-Up. The event features a pop-up of Pony art and merch. Pony, also known as Gabrielle Laïla Tittley, uses bright colors and takes inspiration from the body and animals to make provocative pieces that have double meanings. You can explore the bold works of art and even purchase some merch if you find a piece you like.

Wednesday, February 13

Harry Potter Trivia Night

The Lowdown: Blake Street Tavern hosts a Harry Potter Trivia Night. The event features a chance to flex your knowledge about the magical wizarding world. The Lowdown: David B. Smith Gallery presents an Emily Joyce and Justine Hill Opening Reception. The event features a night to explore Emily Joyce’s solo exhibition Then Where Sun When There. The exhibition takes inspiration from geometric patterns and systems created by accomplished artists and thinkers. Justine Hill’s exhibition Bookends presents works that feature three components – figure, background and landscape with bursts of color.

The Lowdown: Mirus Gallery welcomes Awaken The Chrysalis. The exhibition, created by artist Oliver Vernon, is the first solo show Vernon has presented in six years. The works focus on the hatching of potential with abstraction, figuration, architecture and more using collage pieces that have been painted on and reassembled.

Love Bites: A Valentine’s Haunted House

The Lowdown: Wonderbound teams up with Colorado Symphony to present Cupid’s Playground. The event features a performance led by Yumi Hwang Williams, the Colorado Symphony’s Concertmaster as Wonderbound dancers display a journey of discovering love in many variations.

Saturday, February 16

Denver Roller Derby Doubleheader

The Lowdown: Cheer for some crazy ladies on roller skates during a Denver Roller Derby Doubleheader. The event features two games, one between the Bad Apples versus the Green Barrettes at 5:30 p.m. and the second between the Orange Crushers versus the Shotgun Betties at 8 p.m. You can sip on brews from Declaration Brewing, grab bites from the PB&R food truck and celebrate at an after party.

The Lowdown: Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA) presents artist in residency Amanda Wachob. Wachob will be in the museum tattooing individuals in her galleries throughout the day. The tattoo slots are filled, however, you can still watch the process and tattoos come to life.

Portraits of Love

The Lowdown: Westward Gallery and Parasol Arts host Portraits of Love. The event features a night dedicated to love with presentations of art, music, poet, tango and more. Foul-Mouthed Cross-Stitch

Heavy Metal Flea
