Denver has some wild cultural events lined up this week. Start it off by getting zen during Power Vinyasa and end it by listening to music with art at Music in the Galleries. Whatever you end up doing, make sure to take a look at this roundup of events happening in Denver.

Monday, January 7

Power Vinyasa

The Lowdown: McNichols Building hosts Power Vinyasa. The event features an hour-long yoga session guided by an instructor from The River Yoga. You can start your week off by getting zen and going with the flow. Make sure to bring a mat and water to stay hydrated.

The Lowdown: American Museum of Western Art presents Live Sketching. The event features a chance to watch live sketching sessions of artists from the Coors Western Art Show in the galleries. You can explore the galleries and take inspiration as works are created live.

The Lowdown: American Museum of Western Art-The Anschutz Collection hosts Artful Insight. The event features a deeper look into artist Frederic Remington’s pieces. Remington recorded Western culture through his paintings and is viewed as a notable Western artist.

Tuesday, January 8

The Lowdown: Colorado State Capitol hosts the Inauguration Ceremony. The event features the swearing in of the governor-elect Jared Polis, attorney general-elect Phil Weiser, secretary of state-elect Jena Griswold and treasurer-elect Dave Young. Make sure to dress for the weather as the event is held outside.

ROLL WITH ME Screening

The Lowdown: Sie FilmCenter presents a Roll With Me Screening. The documentary film follows the journey of Gabriel Cordell as he attempts to make a trip across America in his wheelchair as his mode of transportation.

A Bronx Tale

Where: Denver Center for the Performing Arts, 1101 13th St., Denver

The Lowdown: Denver Center for the Performing Arts presents A Bronx Tale. The Broadway hit features a tale of the Bronx in the 1960s as a man is faced with choosing between his family and becoming a mob boss. The play is directed by Robert De Niro and Jerry Zaks and based on Chazz Palminteri’s story.

 Women’s Speaker Series

The Lowdown: Evo (Denver) presents its Women’s Speaker Series. The event features an ongoing series focusing on women in adventure and sports. This Tuesday you can watch two ski films, Finding the Line and Kindred. Following the films, you can listen to a discussion between Nat and Anna Segal, creators of Finding the Line and Izzy and Zoya Lynch, creators of Kindred. The discussion will be led by Julie Brown.

Blue Sneaker Ball

RMCAD Presents: Ex Machina

The Lowdown: Alamo Drafthouse Denver hosts RMCAD Presents: Ex Machina. The event features a screening of the sci-fi film that dives into the world of A.I as computer coder Caleb wins a competition and is invited to his boss’ house to test Ava, a fully functioning A.I system.

The Lowdown: Denver Museum of Nature & Science presents the Indigenous Film Series. The event features a screening of Âs Nutayuneân: We Still Live Here — a documentary film that takes a look at the cultural revival of the Wampanoag Indians of Southeastern Massachusetts. Following the screening, you can participate in a discussion led by Brandy Toelupe — the attorney for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

National Western Stock Show Kick-Off Parade

The Lowdown: Denver’s Union Station presents the National Western Stock Show Kick-Off parade. The event features the annual parade to celebrate the beginning of the National Western Stock Show. You can watch as longhorn cattle walk through downtown Denver, performances from marching bands, cowboys and more.

International Sportsmen’s Exposition

The Lowdown: Colorado Parks and Wildlife presents the International Sportsmen’s Exposition. The event features four days of fishing and hunting demonstrations, presentations from experts, booths of more than 500 different companies and more. You can take part in activities and find some killer gear.

Yoga Cross

The Lowdown: Witness your fitness during Yoga Cross. The event features a one-hour workout class. The first 30-minutes of the class are dedicated to functional fitness training followed by 30-minutes of power vinyasa yoga. All levels are welcome, be ready to sweat.

Alpha Bowhunting Indoor Challenge

The Lowdown: Space Gallery presents Morphogenesis. The exhibition features works from artist Julia Sanders and William Stoehr, an internationally recognized artist. Morphogenesis uses the blurring of realism and abstraction to discuss the struggle of separating self and contemporary culture with the figures in the images.

113th National Western Stock Show

The Lowdown: Celebrate the annual festival of agriculture, Western culture, cowboys and more during the 113th National Western Stock Show. The event features 15 days of performances such as rodeos, a trade show, livestock shows and it all starts with a parade on January 10.

The Lowdown: The Collective Gallery presents Realty Under Construction. The exhibition features a group installation that creates an experience that draws from both individual and collective realities and their distortions. The exhibition is made of paintings, drawings, photography and more from artists such as Thomas Colcord, Guta Galli and Rachel Alexandrou.

Harry Potter Yule Ball

The Lowdown: Cabal Gallery presents Form and Function. The exhibition was created by Chris Mora, a steel sculptor from Wheat Ridge. You can explore robot sculptures that range from small to life-size as well as pose-able robots that are made with steel, springs, magnets and more.

Stain’d Magazine Volume III

Mexican Rodeo Extravaganza
