As New Year’s Eve nears, its time to draw the past year to a close. 2018 was a weird year, whose eulogy will read as a mixed bag of groundbreaking accomplishments and promising strides juxtaposed against jarring transgressions, division and loss. Looking outward, the SpaceX program launched a successful maiden mission into space, a soccer team was impossibly rescued from an underwater cavern and millions poured into the streets calling for stricter gun laws amidst exasperation with school shootings. Conversely, Facebook’s privacy concerns reached a head, families were separated at the Mexican border and wildfires swept through California. In the music realm, streaming grew to even greater heights, AEG announced the construction of a state of the art music venue in RiNo, music veterans like Paul Simon, Elton John and Ozzy Osborn announced and embarked on their farewell tours and the world was taken by surprise at the death of Mac Miller.

Just like the many years that have come before — there was bad, but also the silver lining of good, and as David Bowie once sang, its time to “turn and face the strange.” The world is always changing, the years may get weirder, but there’s no shortage of new beginnings that accompany such change.

We’ve curated a brand new New Year’s Eve playlist to ring in this wild New Year with. Buoyant and brash, this playlist serves as a celebration amidst the night’s libations — the confetti waterfall to turning a new leaf in the calendar. You’ll dance to new tunes from KAYRANADA and GRiZ and perhaps even shed some tears as you dance off the year to the likes of MØ and Robyn, but regardless, you won’t even think about standing still as 2019 draws nigh.

Whatever vibe you’re feeling — embrace it, and just remember to listen responsibly.
