The Low Down: Sol Tribe tattoo shop is hosting a Studio Ghibli themed tattoo extravaganza. Doors open at noon and they will be tattooing until close at 9 p.m. There will be themed snacks and drinks, costumes are encouraged and the staff has compiled themed images starting at $50. One of the best rated and absolutely cleanest tattoo shops in Denver this is a great way to geek out while you get inked.

The Low Down: This event supports lifeline puppy rescue with a simple calendar sale. These aren’t your ordinary calendars though, they’re filled with half-naked Colorado firemen and an assortment of puppies. This Saturday there will be beer, puppies and firefighters so there’s a good chance there will be screaming women.

Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival

Cost: Free admission to festival, tickets now available for the circus

The Low Down: The annual Carnation Festival in Wheat Ridge kicks off at 3:30 p.m. this Friday. The festival will feature the Zoppe Italian Family Circus and Jackalope Arts and Crafts fair which attracts over 150 local artists. There are still submission slots available if you are an artist and would like to apply. There will be an Italian Car showcase, Automezzi XXVI, donations from which will go to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research. Also food, live music, softball and fireworks.

The Low Down: As it turns out you no longer have to run away to join the circus. MOTH Contemporary Circus Center is holding an open house to showcase their staff, facility and talent. The group offers classes in a myriad of circus skills to the general public. It is a tough economy right now, always good to know your options.

The Low Down: Denver loves the Flobots. Unlike other local bands who soar to commercial fame and fizzle out in our hearts, the Flobots unique sound and opinionated stances have kept them fresh in our minds. They will be playing a free show with a guest MC and comedian Phil Palisoul will perform stand up. The event is a preview for the upcoming Ruby Hill free concert venue named Levitt Pavilion opening in 2017. Great Divide Brewing Company will be on standby if you are in need of refreshments as well as an assortment of local food trucks.

The Low Down: Conservation Colorado, a local non-profit is throwing a benefit in partnership with local breweries to raise money to protect Colorado rivers. The event will have live music and food as well as information on how our amazing state can brew the best beer the longest by protecting our natural water sources. VIP tickets come with an additional tasting from 6 to 7 p.m.  This is a 21+ event.

Brick Fest Live Lego Experience

When: Saturday, August 13, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. & Sunday, August 14, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Low Down: Brick Fest is an interactive lego festival and educational day. There will be shopping, life-sized lego sculptures, video games and much more. Oh, and there will be every single kind of Lego ever made and you can play with them. Need I say more?

The Low Down: TheBigWonderful has taken over Denver Secret Show and merged it with Downtown 82 to create a blowout event with 12 DJs and artists, three stages, signature drinks and of course, food. Tapped Brew Fest

The Low Down: Tapped is the largest nighttime beer festival and will be coming to Denver this Saturday. There is giant beer pong (using beach balls and 55 gallon cups), LED light corn-hole, black light Jenga, food trucks and DJs. The event offers both general admission as well as VIP tickets but hurry and purchase now, early bird pricing is about to disappear. This is a 21+ event.

Hordeum Whiskey Release Party

The Low Down: Laws is releasing a straight malt whiskey and offering a real alternative to a late brunch and Sunday Funday. Their last open house of the summer celebrates the new batch but also offers $5 whiskey cocktails and food truck offerings. Laws may be worth getting up earlier than noon as well as eating tacos and straight malt instead of eggs Benedict.

The Low Down: This event is amazing. There are over 30 taquerias participating and tickets include free samples from over 30 vendors. There will be live music, cash bar and access to the Saint’s and Sinner’s auto show. VIP offers access to an exclusive area with additional tacos and two free tequila drinks.

Doggy Dip at Deer Creek Pool

When: Sunday, August 14, 5:30-7 p.m.

Where: Deer Creek Pool – 8637 S. Garrison St., Littleton

Cost: $10 Per Dog

The Low Down: To celebrate the pool closing at the end of summer Deer Creek Outdoor Pool will host a dog-only swim day. Each dog needs its own registered handler for admission so one person over 12 years-old-per dog. Reward your pup for being so cool this hot, hot summer.

No Sex Please, We’re British and/or Nightwatch

When: Saturday, August 13, No Sex Please at 2 p.m. & Nightwatch at 7:30 p.m.

Where: John Hand Theater – 7653 E. 1st Ave., Denver

Cost: $17-$22 per show

The Low Down: It’s closing day for two shows presented by the Spotlight Theater Company. At 2 p.m. is the last showing of No Sex Please We’re British, a farce about a prudish young couple’s honeymoon being interrupted by porn and its’ stars. Then at 7:30 p.m. comes Nightwatch – a tormented and insomniac New York Woman believes she is seeing bodies appear in the building across from her apartment. The two shows will give their final performance on the same day, a great alternative to another Netflix marathon.
