Many of you might assume that Aspen is too far and too expensive. I go often, because it is temperate for a mountain climate, far enough away from Denver, spectacularly beautiful, fun and yes, affordable!
Aspen is just a 3-hour drive from Denver. During the summer, Independence Pass is open and is one of the most spectacular in the state. It is not for the faint of heart, however. The road is narrow and the drop-offs are intense, but well worth it if you dare make the trip. It also happens to be a slightly shorter drive by about 30 minutes.
The Molly Gibson Lodge is my favorite place to stay with its authentic Aspen ski lodge feel. It also happens to be a 4 Diamond hotel at a 3 Diamond price. In fact, the hotel has undergone a two million dollar renovation the past two years. These updates have given the hotel a modern décor with a casual feel.
