Love Guru: Fulfilling Desires

The most common thing parents say to their kids is: “No”. No surprise there. I think it would have been far more interesting if, unless there were good and REAL reasons not to, to say “Yes” to almost everything as we grew up. “Sure, eat the bug. Eat the worm.” Let the children find out for themselves what that was like. After all, there are countries in this world, many of them, where bugs and worms and spiders and all sorts of creepy-crawly things are eaten daily as a great protein source.

But, our parents also got the “No” messages ingrained in their psyche and they passed that on, usually without a second thought, on automatic. So, we got to grow up with lots of “No” responses also ingrained in our psyche, and they stayed there, making or blocking our choices, unless we give them a second thought and take them out of our “Automatic Actions” file and see them under full light to be reviewed and assessed for their value and worth to us now. Even if they had some value back then, they might have none now, or, more likely have negative value because they stop us having so many of the great and amazing life experiences that are available to us now.

What is shocking to me is that there were hundreds of such blocks and negatives programmed into our young, inquiring, curious and adventurous minds and hearts to make us conform to some often ridiculous social norm, and in the process, we got to forget what we really wanted, and lost touch with the desires we had as unique creatures in the universe. We forgot who we are.

Truth is, only we had the best and correct answers for life within us, to be and become all we could be instead of yet another boring clone of the social cookie cutter.

So this week the energy tells me that in the great unfolding of life and of our beings it is once again a time to dig deep and look for those hidden treasures of who we are, and the signposts for that journey are clear and simple. What is missing that you want or desire?

What would you give yourself, what quality or life approach or attitude or talent or gift, if you had a magic wand? I am not talking about money or things, I am talking about whatever gives your life real meaning, real value, real purpose and excitement.

In our rather puritanical society that immediately cuts off most pleasures – because if we had all that we would not be good consumers any more – we would be fulfilled humans.

Find those desires by identifying and claiming your temptations – then do them. As I have said for years, the only thing to do with temptation is to give in to it (bear in mind, I do not advocate breaking the law to do so.)

To fulfill many of our deep desires that are close to our hearts, we need to let go of old judgements and realize that we are allowed to, and entitled to, explore life’s offerings and pleasures.

You will be a much happier person for it. – Gregory
