The days of just jeans are over. This Fall, there are so many options it’s overwhelming.
Top Trends for Fall 2012
Color and pattern are the most important trends in denim this season. Colored denim is prominent in every collection and is available in just about every hue imaginable. Look for colored denim in a shade that is flattering to your shape. For example, curvy women are better suited to darker colors like navy, oxblood, and forest green. Women with a straight figure are best in a bright color with a tapered leg that will give the illusion of curves. Pattern jeans are a great way to add trend to a wardrobe. The patterns this Fall range from subtle to obvious. A subtle pattern can be worn in many ways. Think about pairing a black jean with a tone on tone lace print with a tee for day and a blazer for night. Selecting a bold pattern is a great way to add punch to a look. Use caution when wearing patterned jeans, let the pattern be the statement in the outfit.
Shape for Shape
Designers left no one behind this Fall when is comes to denim. There is a style for every shape and every size. The key shapes are baggy, skinny, and wide-leg. Keep in-mind your specific body shape when trying on jeans. Know that not all jeans are created equal. Athletic women, those fuller in the hip and thigh areas should look for a relaxed fit with a larger leg opening. Women with an hourglass shape are best with a high-waist let, in either a trouser or a skinny style. Fabric is as important as fit in denim. Seek out jeans that contain a small percentage of stretch mixed in with the cotton fibers. Adding the stretch allows for a more precise fit and adds comfort to the garment.
According to Stephanie Brown, Owner of Denim One (www.denim-one.com) in Denver, “We want our customers to feel confident in their denim, so when trying on jeans we always suggest sitting down, bending to the floor, and other movements of daily life.”
Shops like Denim One have very knowledgeable staff and can help to find “the” pair of jeans.
Everyone loves an iconic 5-pocket silhouette. This fall try incorporating the denim trend in different way. The jean jacket is a great staple and looks good on everyone. Try a fitted jean jacket worn over a dress with boots. Another great denim is definitely borrowed from the boys. Add a denim shirt. There are so many styles and fabrications there is truly a denim shirt for everyone. Selecting a fitted shirt is great back to a colored jean or with a skirt. A fluid style, more relaxed is perfect with a skinny jean. Wear the shirt over a tee or buttoned up under a sweater. There are many stylish ways to wear a denim shirt. Madewell offers several styles of denim shirts that selecting just one is impossible.
