In celebration of this milestone, the Museum invites you to attend the Galactic Gold Celebration — a spectacular event honoring 125 years of exploration and impact. On the evening of Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, the Museum will transform into a cosmic Western playground, blending frontier adventure with out-of-this-world wonder.
Since its incorporation in 1900, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science has ignited curiosity and inspired generations to explore the wonders of our world and the universe beyond. What began with the passionate collections of naturalist Edwin Carter has blossomed into Colorado’s leading institution for scientific discovery, education, and community connection.

In 1908, the Museum first opened its doors to the public, showcasing butterflies, moths, and sparkling crystallized gold. As the decades passed, the Museum grew both in size and ambition. The institution earned acclaim across the West, then worldwide, for its breathtaking wildlife dioramas that transported visitors to the savannas of Africa, the peaks of the Rockies and beyond. Expansions continued over the years, with the addition of the Gates Planetarium, exhibition galleries and the giant screen theater, giving visitors new ways to experience the universe and the story of our planet.
Landmark projects like the Snowmastodon excavation in 2010 and Teen Rex in 2023 further cemented the Museum’s place at the forefront of scientific discovery, capturing imaginations across Colorado and beyond.
Now it’s time to celebrate this incredible legacy. At the Galactic Gold Celebration, guests will enjoy a roaming reception with delicious hors d’oeuvres, desserts and specialty cocktails, plus a silent auction, music and science surprises. Whether you show up in cowboy boots or a metallic jacket worthy a space adventure, you’ll fit right in at this out-of-this-world celebration.
VIP guests can access early entry at 6 p.m. for an exclusive experience, while general admission begins at 7 p.m. The event is 21+ and proceeds from the Galactic Gold Celebration will directly support the Museum’s mission to inspire curiosity and encourage lifelong learning for people of all ages.
After 125 years, the Museum is still just getting started. As Edwin Carter famously stated, “a museum of natural history is never finished.” Come be part of history and help launch the next century of science, wonder and adventure.
