Since Denver Central Market (DCM) first opened in 2016, it has been a hub for fresh concepts and bustling crowds. The concept has even expanded to the airport and now the team behind the bar at DCM seems to have caught the expansion bug as well.

Brass Tacks, opening inside the historic building that formerly housed Blake Street Vault, is expected to kick off before the end of 2018. Led by husband and wife duo Katsumi Yuso Ruiz and Stephen Julia, the aim of this new space is to offer the same high-quality cocktails as DCM’s Curio Bar but at affordable prices and in a non-pretentious environment.  And they wanted that same approachability to run throughout the entire project, from the drinks to the food — and even the name.

“We just wanted something that reflected our goals for the project and we wanted to keep things simple and give people honest food and drinks,” explained Stuart Jensen, the man behind Brass Tacks’ bar program. “No pretension and nothing over the top. So when we talked about we liked that classic saying… getting down to brass tacks.”

In addition Jensen’s beverage program, chef Zach Spott is rolling out a food menu for all types of diners.  From lunchtime sandwiches and salads to happy hour bar snacks and ‘shareables’ for dinner, chef Spott is aiming to keep the bites as approachable and casual as the drinks. And while they have yet to announce an official opening date, the pair are aiming to open before the end of 2018.

Brass Tacks is located at 1526 Blake Street, Denver. The space will be open daily, for lunch and dinner and offer regular and late-night happy hours — stay tuned with us here for updates.
