6 Local Beauty Brands That Offer a Body of Natural Products

As the saying goes, beauty is only skin deep, and it’s what’s inside that counts. That may be true, but it’s becoming increasingly more important to examine what we use to protect and maintain that beautiful skin as well. 303 put together the following list of local, natural beauty brands that offer a wide range of makeup and skincare products to help you save face and support the community in the process.

Alchemy Minerals

Where: Two locations: 2116 Pearl St., Boulder and 4343 West 44th Ave., Denver

When: At the Boulder location the hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed Sunday. At the Denver location the hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Lowdown: Alchemy Minerals is a local collective established to create cosmetics using natural, anti-inflammatory ingredients designed to reduce irritation and blemishes. The ingredients are mined, designed, manufactured and packaged in the United States. The company’s latest project is Alchemy Face Bar, a beauty bar offering makeup, skincare, lash and brow services, ranging in price from $10 for false eyelash application to $292 for mink eyelash extensions.

The Lowdown: Based in Denver, Mineral Fusion began as a cosmetics brand in 2007. The company now offers a range of hair and skincare products, all of which are free of gluten, parabens, talc, artificial colors and synthetic fragrances. In addition to their commitment to sustainable practices, Mineral Fusion also supports the local community. They donate a portion of their sales to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, an organization that directly supports survivors of domestic violence.

Vert Beauty

Where: 3442 West 32nd Ave., Denver

When: Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Lowdown: Amanda Hume founded Vert Beauty to provide the community with a beauty boutique rooted in green practices. Vert Beauty offers makeup and skincare from brands like jane iredale and RMS Beauty, as well as its own line of cosmetics and makeup brushes. The boutique also offers beauty services, including facials, waxing and green beauty consultations that range in price from $10 for facial waxing to $185 for lymphatic therapy facials.

AILLEA

Where: Two locations: 1408 Larimer St., Denver and 3000 East 1st Ave., Denver (in the mall near Apple and Macy’s)

When: At the Larimer location the hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. At the Cherry Creek location, hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Lowdown: Former beauty industry executive, Kathryn Murray Dickinson, established AILLEA to offer a space in which people could trust the makeup and skincare products they purchase are genuinely safe — free of parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, endocrine disruptors and other toxic chemicals. AILLEA offers products from top organic brands like Indie Lee and Suki, as well as its own line of canvas makeup bags.

Spinster Sisters Co.

Where: 1116 Washington Ave., Golden

When: Monday-Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Lowdown: Kelly Perkins started Spinster Sisters Co. in 1994 as an alternative to modern skincare products loaded with chemicals. She began making natural soaps for her family and friends, but by 2011 she was selling Spinster Sisters Co. products regularly at local markets. A year later, Perkins quit her job as a business analyst and turned this side hustle into a full-time business. Today, Spinster Sisters Co. is a thriving micro-soapery of 30 different handmade soaps, as well as a full line of shaving products, lotions, salves, soaks and scrubs.

Base Coat Nail Salon

Where: Two locations: 3244 Navajo St. #101, Denver and 2501 Dallas St. #262, Aurora (inside Stanley Marketplace)

When: Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at both locations

The Lowdown: Base Coat Nail Salon was built on the idea that healthy beauty starts with a solid base. The custom products used at the salon are plant-based, Leaping Bunny certified, vegan and scented exclusively with essential oils. In addition to traditional manicures, Base Coat offers non-toxic, gas permeable gel manicures infused with vitamins and designed to allow air to reach the nail bed, preventing extensive damage. Manicures start at $30 and pedicures start at $40.
