25 Unique Things to do in Denver this Weekend

It has been a bit chilly lately, but Denver has some great events to keep you warm. Start off your weekend by watching some amazing short films at Side Stories and end it on a crafty note at Foul-Mouthed Cross-Stitch. Whatever you end up doing, make sure to take a look at this roundup of events happening in Denver.

Thursday, February 22

Side Stories

When: February 22 – March 2, 6 – 10 p.m. 

Where: Exterior walls from Broadway to 36th Street and Blake to Larimer St., Denver 

Cost: Free admission

The Lowdown: Experience the artistry of Side Stories on the walls of RiNo. Ten Colorado artists’ works are projected on blank walls showing stories about the surrounding neighborhoods. Each digital work spans from three to five minutes long and will stay up until March 2.

Boulder International Film Festival

When: February 22 – 25, 5 p.m.  

Where: Boulder Film Festival, 2338 Broadway St., Boulder

Cost: $60 – $375 tickets available here

The Lowdown: Celebrate all things cinema at the Boulder International Film Festival. The four-day festival features films from local, national and international filmmakers and creators. You can get in on gala events, filmmaker happy hours and of course watch some great films. If you try hard enough, you can even spot some celebrities.

Winter Olympic Viewing Party

When:  February 22, 5 – 8 p.m.

Where: The Source Hotel and Market, 3320 Brighton Blvd., Denver

Cost: Free admission

The Lowdown: The Source Hotel and Market will host a series of Winter Olympic Viewing Parties. You can join in to watch the different Olympic events on a big screen and root for your favorite athletes. You can also try some new tasty bites from a rotating menu provided by Injoi Korean Kitchen and Olympic themed cocktails from RiNo Yacht Club.

Baller Beer

Where: Hops and Pie, 3920 Tennyson St., Denver 

Cost: Free admission 

The Lowdown: Hops and Pie present a Baller Beer takeover from Fremont Beer. Eight different beers are tapped throughout the day. You can grab one of the beers that are tapped to sip on and dig into a great slice of pizza.

Cookies and Beer Pairing

Where: Comrade Brewing Company, 7667 E Iliff Ave. Ste F., Denver 

Cost: $12 at the door

The Lowdown: Comrade Brewing Company joins Good Sugar Baking for a Cookies and Beer Pairing. For only $12 you get four cookies paired with four beer tasters. A percentage of the fee goes to the National Park Foundation. So you can eat cookies and drink beer for a good cause.

Artist Talk

Where: Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, 1485 Delgany St., Denver 

Cost: $5-$10 get tickets here

The Lowdown: The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver host an Artist Talk featuring Diego Rodriguez-Warner and Zoe Larkins. Rodriguez-Warner and Larkins will talk about  Rodriguez-Warner’s exhibition Honestly Lying and his life as an artist.

Friday, February 23

Artopia

Where: The Church Nightclub. 1160 Lincoln St., Denver

The Lowdown: Westword hosts Artopia, a celebration of art, fashion and culture. Artists come together at The Church Nightclub to paint, sculpt and more, all in front of you in real time. You can sip on cocktails and listen to DJs while you peruse the visual art and immersive art performances.

Untitled: The Narrators

Where: Untitled at the Denver Art Museum, 100 W 14th Ave Pkwy., Denver

The Lowdown: Listen to stories inspired by art at Untitled: The NarratorsUntitled at the Denver Art Museum hosts live performances from illustrators, interactive exhibits and more. The series is created by The Narrators, working with Denver Zine Library, From the Hip Photo and FUNK CLUB.

Denver Restaurant Week

The Lowdown: Do you love all things food? Denver restaurant week is back and will rock your foodie world. More than 230 restaurants will participate this year. Each offering a newly overhauled setting featuring a four-course meal that will range from $25 to $45. Menus are now available to take a peek at, so see if your favorite restaurant is in the lineup.

Goldspot Brewing Company Anniversary Weekend

The Lowdown: Help Goldspot Brewing Company celebrate three years at a Goldspot Brewing Company Anniversary Weekend. You can try 16 beers that are available all weekend long and get some grub at the brewers’ favorite food trucks.

Johnny Cash Birthday Bash

The Lowdown: The BAR CAR honors Johnny Cash at a Johnny Cash Birthday Bash. Some of Cash’s best song will fill the air and you can also hear from the Atomic Drifters. The party is in a train car so get there early to make sure you have room.

Divine Yoga

The Lowdown: Let your weekly stresses go at Divine Yoga. Gina Turner and Tim Rothschild host the yoga and meditation class before Gina performs. A ticket to the yoga session will get you into her show, so bring a mat and get loose before you dance the night away.

Fresh Fridays

Winter Late Night Tent Party

Colorado Home & Garden Show

The Lowdown: Learn about home improvement and gardening at the Colorado Home & Garden Show. For the 59th year in a row, the Colorado Home & Garden Show presents different vendors to show you how to make your home and garden look its best.

Pillow Fight

The Lowdown: Let out some stress from the week at a Pillow Fight. The pillow fight will commence in a flash mob style (bring your own pillow) and will put a smile on your face. Whatever you do, do not bring a bed bug infested pillow to the fight.

Daybreaker BLDR

The Lowdown: Head over to Boulder for Daybreaker BLDR. Start your morning with a yoga and then dance your day in. The party features a bathrobes and bubbles theme so put on a bathrobe and party it up. Free coffee, breakfast bites and more will fuel your dancing, so be ready to break a sweat.

Sloth Weekend

Free Lululemon Pop-Up Workout

Sun Sheerutations

The Lowdown: Kady from Big Booty Yoga leads a Sun Sheerutations yoga class. You can bend into vinyasa while listening to Ed Sheeran in the background. After class, you can sip on a beer or mimosa to quench your thirst. Bring your mat and get ready for some sheer joy. All levels are welcome, register here.

Old School Cool

The Lowdown: Love vintage fashion? Then you need to check out Old School Cool, a vintage market. The market features local shops with vintage and retro fashion, accessories and more. You can shop for looks, grab bites from food trucks and get a great Instagram picture in a throwback photo booth.

Foul-Mouthed Cross-Stitch
