This Week in Concerts – Norah Jones, Portugal. The Man, Gramatik and More

We’re halfway through June and the Denver concert scene is nowhere close to slowing down. From unbelievable Red Rocks line-ups, to packed schedules at Denver’s smaller venues, there is an obscene amount of music for you to get out and experience. Stay tuned for updates of newly announced concerts.

Monday, June 12

Kentucky’s post-grunge rockers are headed to the Bluebird. Members of the hard rock group include Chris Robertson, Ben Wells, John Fred Young and Jon Lawhon and the band was formed back in 2001. They currently have five studio albums with the last one released in 2016. They’re best known for their tracks “White Trash Millionaire,” “Lonely Train,” “Me and Mary Jane” and “In My Blood.”

Tuesday, June 13

Kasey Chambers, an Australian singer-songwriter, is headlining in Denver. Originally a member of the Dead Ringer Band, she has since flourished pursuing her solo career. She’s best known for “Not Pretty Enough,” “True Colours” and “A Million Tears” – her country ballads about love and heartache.

Wednesday, June 14

Another singer-songwriter is gracing Denver. Norah Jones, an American musician, is headlining our beloved sandstone monoliths. Jones’ first album Come Away With Me launched her into the spotlight with favorite tracks such as “Don’t Know Why,” “Seven Years” and “Feelin’ the Same Way.” Her soft vocals and honest lyrics melt any listener’s heart. She will also be performing at Telluride Bluegrass Festival later in the week.

Thursday, June 15

The Music of ABBA performed by Sweden’s Arrival is the world’s best known ABBA tribute show.  ABBA’s first hit, “Waterloo,” won the 1974 Eurovision song contest and launched them into the limelight. This 10-piece band will take you back to the ‘70s as they re-create the appearance of the original stars that defined pop music. They will perform hits such as “Dancing Queen,” “Take a Chance on Me” and “Waterloo” accompanied by dancers and costumes of that era. For a blast to the past, just visit Red Rocks this coming Thursday.

Friday, June 16

Indie and roots rock band Dispatch is also headlining Red Rocks this week. Formed in Boston in 1996, the band consists of members Chadwick Stokes, Brad Corrigan and Pete Francis Heimbold. The band fuses indie, roots rock and reggae to create a sound uniquely their own. They’re best known for songs “The General,” “Flying Horses,” “Two Coins” and “Cover This.”

Denis Jašarević, aka Gramatik, is an electronic producer from Slovenia. He’s known for incorporating elements of hip-hop into his music, which creates a more melodic vibe to his electronic-based genre. Fans are well aware of the bassy energy his sets emit — which can range anywhere from head-bobbing to mosh pits. He’s well known for “Hit That Jive,” “A Bright Day,” “Just Jammin” and “So Much For Love.” For a mind-melting way to spend your Saturday, head to Red Rocks to catch this highly anticipated show.

Sunday, June 18

Red Rocks is hosting yet another incredible indie/alternative band. Portugal. The Man was formed in Wasilla, Alaska by John Gourley, Zachary Carothers, Kyle O’Quin, Eric Howk and Jason Sechrist. The band uses synthetic, looped beats along with a full band which allows them to achieve a collective sound all their own. Their best known album Evil Friends was released in 2013 and reached audiences all over the globe. Well known for their tracks “Modern Jesus,” “Sleep Forever,” “Purple Yellow Red & Blue” and “So American,” they’ve become mainstream icons for the alternative scene.
