What better way for John Elway to celebrate the last day before Broncos training camp than to play golf with fellow celebrities for a good cause? Elway along with John Lynch, Zach Johnson — defending champion of the 2013 BMW Championship, and Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer took part in a 9-hole showdown to benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation. The exhibition showcased the world-renowned course, providing a glimpse of the course that will challenge the top 70 players in the BMW Championship 2014 PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs on September 4-7.

Cherry Hills Country club will not be pulling a “Sochi”, they are ready to host the 2014 BMW Championship.

“As you’ll see today, the club is ready for the national spotlight,” said Tournament Chairman George Solich. “We couldn’t be more excited to have the top players in the world coming to this time tested, historic golf course.”

Current Evans Scholars: Mark Abtahi, Grant Cassell, Melyzjah Smith, Haelena Schwemmer caddied for the celebrities. Emceed by Golf Channel’s Matt Ginella, celebs enjoyed 9-holes of top quality golf and friendly banter — the event raised $45,000 for the Evans Scholars Foundation.

“Golf is different than football,” said Elway. “With golf you have to sit back and be patient. In football you can spit and hit, have a bad 4th quarter and still win. You can’t beat golf. As soon as I think I am starting to get good, I am brought back down.”

If the Championship is anything like Exhibition Day, guests can expect top notch quality from start to finish. Cherry Hills Country Club provided members, sponsors and media to a first class selection of appetizers, food, drinks and dessert. With temperatures throughout the day reaching near 100 degrees, staff were prepared with libation stations and golf cart shuttles to accommodate guests.

“It’s a good day when you can play some golf and laugh at Charlie” said Lynch.
