Forget all about the sweaty realities of summer and embrace the season’s sexier aspects at this year’s Summer Poolside Fashion Series, kicking off June 26.

Presented by Denver Fashion Weekend, the 303 Magazine event will take place every fourth Thursday at The Breakers Resort, and will feature live music, specialty cocktails and outdoor barbecue food.

As the inaugural affair, next week’s kick-off is expected to attract a great turnout; so in addition to scoring tickets, you want to make certain your attire is on point, guys.

If you’re planning to attend but are unsure of what threads to wear, take a look at the summertime staples below. They’re practical, versatile and very much appropriate for the occasion.

Let’s start with the basics: Trousers.

The fashion show series is a summer event so you’ll want a look that is both stylish and heat-combative. Pick a pant that is comprised of light-weight material such as cotton or silk, and don’t be afraid to select a style that reflects your personality — be it understated, bold or something in between.

Shorts

There’s this pervasive notion in the realm menswear that argues casual shorts should be avoided at all costs. Unfortunately, this view isn’t very considerate of the dudes who can produce enough butt sweat to sufficiently fill a kiddy pool. If you happen to be one of those guys, or if you’re especially proud of your calf muscles, switch out the pants for a pair of sharp, simple chino shorts.

Long-sleeve button-downs

There’s a reason why men have been donning these shirts for decades. Because they look good on all of us. Just make sure it’s breathable, simple and not produced by Affliction.

You get most of the high-brow steeze that comes with a long-sleeve button-down — plus some much-needed arm ventilation. But to avoid looking like one of Best Buy’s Geek Squad employees, pick a style with some flare. A basic silhouette can be elevated with bold patterns and standout color schemes.

Polos

Often referred to as a “dressed-up tee,” the polo shirt has always been the go-to item in a dude’s arsenal of summer clothes. But simply having a collar does not secure a dapper, put-together look. For the Summer Poolside Fashion Series, you want to make sure the style is distinguished either by a unique print or an impeccable fit.

Sunglasses

Whatever you decide to wear, you can be sure a pair of sunglasses will increase your outfit’s cool factor by several degrees. This event is outdoors, so forget about all the unsavory cliches associated with wearing shades to a fashion show. Not only is it stylish, it’s also very necessary.
