Happy Denver Fashion Weekend (DFW) everyone!

Today’s post is about the essential fall flat. As much as I love my heels, I rock flats frequently. I adore structured ballet flats and biker boots this season, but the flat de jour is the smoking slipper. This Hugh Hefner inspired shoe brings a certain retro masculinity to footwear, similar to what the oxford has done in recent seasons.

While I’m not completely sold on the rather regal shoe, it appears Hollywood and consumers are slipping into smoking slippers quiet easily.Chuck Bass, Gossip Girl’s mysterious and fashionably demure bad boy, may be single-handedly responsible for this footwear fad.

Nearly every retailer from Steve Madden to Aldo to Ferragamo is offering some style of the slippers for both men and woman, meaning there are many options to choose from. Keeping on trend with animal prints, there are a cornucopia of cheetah versions. For a more feminine look, there are sequin, rhinestone and stud versions available. And, for those who want to fully embrace the classic slips, there are rich-hued velvet varieties.

Try the look with a slouchy boyfriend pant and cardigan to balance the masculine/feminine feeling. Or, style with shorts, tights and a feminine blouse. I do like a shoe that doesn’t require sacrificing style for comfort.

Cigar anyone?
