In Denver, art and animal welfare share a colorful connection through Cat Care Society’s biennial gala and art auction, Tails of the Painted Cats. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the event has become one of the city’s most creative fundraisers. The event unites local artists, animal lovers, and community members around a common cause: giving every cat the chance to live a healthy, happy life.
Dozens of one-of-a-kind works of art, each with a feline twist, will go under the auction hammer on October 18 at Pinehurst Country Club. From whimsical painted cat sculptures to intricate pottery and vibrant canvases, each piece reflects both the imagination of Denver’s creative community and the resilient spirit of the cats who inspire them.

But Tails of the Painted Cats is more than just a celebration of artistry. Every ticket sold and every bid placed directly supports Cat Care Society, a nonprofit shelter based in Lakewood that has been serving Colorado cats since 1981. Proceeds from the gala fund lifesaving medical care, safe housing, and adoption services for hundreds of cats each year including seniors, special needs cats, and those requiring extensive veterinary treatment.
For Cat Care Society, fundraising events like this one help sustain the shelter’s mission to To be a safe and enriching place for all cats on their journey to a loving home, regardless of age or ability. “The generosity of our community allows us to provide second chances for cats who need them most,” says Executive Director EC Michaels. “The art is extraordinary, but the true masterpiece is the impact we can make together.”

This year, supporters have more ways than ever to participate. Guests attending in person will enjoy cocktails, dinner, and entertainment alongside the live and silent auctions. For those who can’t make it to the gala, bidding in the silent auction and raffle tickets are open online, making it possible for anyone to compete for the artwork and support the cause from anywhere.
In addition to original art, the evening will also feature a wine pull, raffle, games, and opportunities to meet the artists whose work will be showcased. The atmosphere promises to be equal parts elegant and playful, much like the cats it benefits.

The impact of the event is tangible. In past years, funds raised through Tails of the Painted Cats have covered costly surgeries, medications, and specialized diets for cats who would otherwise be left without options.
Whether you’re a collector seeking a one-of-a-kind piece, an animal lover wanting to make a difference, or both, Tails of the Painted Cats offers a chance to be part of something uniquely Denver: a community that values creativity, compassion, and cats in equal measure.
