Celtic Tavern: Burgers to Die for

Most of Denver is familiar with the Celtic Tavern as a late night authentic Irish pub boasting live music and an excellent selection of beer-conveniently connected to Delany’s cigar bar. However, what most fail to realize is not only is this Irish pub a great hang out on the weekends, but it also offers a superb menu with choices ranging from soup and salad, to rabbit and corned beef and cabbage. I recently visited Celtic Tavern to sample their brand new burger menu.

The new burger menu offers 12 different types of mouth watering burgers. From “The Lox” burger-made with salmon, cream cheese and a Scotch whiskey mustard sauce, to the “Top O’ the Mornin’”- made with ham, fried egg and bacon, there is an option for everyone. I choose to sample “The Nutter” made with peanut butter, bacon, jalapenos and onion. The chef made my burger gluten free by wrapping it in lettuce (picture above). I was hesitant at first, as I usually find that peanut butter is quite thick and has a drying texture. However, the thin layer of peanut butter added a smooth salty flavor and complemented the crisp bacon quite nicely. I also tried the “Little Bo Peep” made with lamb, goat cheese, red onion on a pesto rubbed bun (featured image). The quality of the lamb was nothing less than expected after sampling the other hamburger meat.

All the hamburger meat used to make the burgers is from Harris Ranch. The beef from Harris Ranch is all-natural, adding no preservative or artificial ingredients. In all honestly, it has been quite some time since I have tasted quality hamburger meat. The burger literally melted in my mouth and I could taste the freshness of the meat. Despite using such high quality beef, the prices of the burgers range from $9.95-$12.95 and each come with fries and slaw. You won’t find a better deal on a quality hamburger anywhere else in Denver.

Happy hour at Celtic Tavern is Monday-Friday 3-7pm, with live music every Saturday evening.
