Last Saturday, June 18, flocks of guests gathered at the Boulder Municipal Airport for the 1940s WWII Era Ball. Stepping into the event was like stepping into a time machine back to the 1940s. Between the original planes, classic fashion, vehicles, flybys, pin-up contest, and swinging musical performances it is no surprise that this event has become one of the most unique in Colorado.
1940s fashion can be difficult to master. Every thrift store and costume shop carries fashion pieces from the 1920s, 1950s or 1970s – but the 1940s? That’s a tricky one. America circa 1940 meant hardships for families at war which dictated the fashions of the 1940s. Hollywood had a major influence on the style of everyday women, who were encouraged to look good despite rationing and shortages to keep up morale.
It is safe to say that women (and men alike) nailed all of the looks from the 1940s at the ball. Take a look below at our top looks from the soiree, along with the stories behind their inspo.
