Nestled in Commerce City, Colorado, La Casa Del Rey has been serving scratch-made Mexican and New Mexican food since 1986 – and it’s still thriving. With its bold green chile, generous portions, and deep family roots, it’s become a local favorite for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
A Heritage of Flavor & Family
La Casa Del Rey was founded by Ernie and Nancy Atencio, using recipes their family had honed over generations. Over time, the reins passed to their niece, Tammy Atencio, and her husband Javier — who, along with their sons, continue the legacy.
To stay connected with the community, the family also launched a food truck – Gilly’s, named in honor of Tammy’s father. That mobile arm serves street tacos, bowls, and menu items found in the main restaurant.

What makes it Special since 1986!
Green chile is the anchor. You’ll find it in multiple heat levels — mild to “extra hot” poured over eggs, burritos, and more.
Breakfast all day. Their breakfast burritos are available even past the morning rush.
Generous portions. You won’t leave hungry. For under $15 you can get a smothered breakfast burrito, chips & salsa, and a drink.
Casual, homey environment. The place leans into comfort rather than frills.
Local loyalty. Longtime diners return across generations – kids of past patrons now bring their own families.
