Wash Park Welcomes Broderick, a Fresh Take on the Neighborhood Bar

Broderick feels less like a bar and more like your best friend’s living room. Plush couches invite you to sink in, antique lamps cast a warm glow and the hum of conversation lingers over cocktails and coffee. Open since August 15, the new concept from the team behind Uncle Tim’s Cocktails is part neighborhood café, part cocktail lounge and fully focused on creating a place where people want to stay awhile.

For co-owner Tim Felkner, the name Broderick comes with history. Years ago in San Francisco, he and friends shared a sprawling apartment on Broderick Street that became a hub for birthdays, dinners and after-hours gatherings. “Our “Broderick Flat” was the go-to gathering spot,” Felkner said. “It was a magical place with huge living and dining rooms. We made a lot of memories there.”

He hopes the Denver space carries that same spirit of connection. “During the day, it will be a place to cozy in on plush couches with big windows that let in lots of light,” Felkner explained. “At night, the energy is higher but the interior is mostly lit by lamps that provide a warm glow, so it maintains a relaxing at-home feel.”

The drinks menu highlights Uncle Tim’s bottled classics like Manhattans and Negronis, along with seasonal cocktails and a mocktail program, Felkner said, surprises most guests. “We put just as much care into creating these drinks as any others,” he affirmed.

Food partners bring the same thoughtful touch. Paninis and salads come from Gino Panino, pastries arrive fresh from Rebel Bread and desserts are supplied by Toute Douceur. “The desserts are exactly what you need to pair with a cocktail or to complete a meal, just a couple bites of decadence,” Felkner recommended.

Felker’s own hand is visible in the details, from the curated art to the mix of antique furniture that gives Broderick its personality. “It feels like an extension of my home,” he said. “Our menu features classic cocktails mixed with creative seasonal flavors. We will also serve coffee and sandwiches in the daytime, which only a few other places do. Then, since we are a distillery tasting room, we can sell our Uncle Tim’s Cocktails bottled drinks to go.”

Broderick is also carving space for community. Plans include live music, comedy, art shows and nonprofit fundraisers, a reflection of what Felkner says people in the neighborhood have been asking for. “We’ve been told over and over by folks here that this street needed a cocktail bar,” he said. “We’re trying to respond to the needs and preferences of the community and change up our event calendar and menus to respond to those needs.”

With its mix of coffee, cocktails, food and live events, Broderick is shaping up to be more than a bar. It’s a place to gather, whether you’re starting the day with a latte or ending it with an old fashioned. Or, as Felkner summed it up, “We want it to be the living room of Denver.”

Broderick is located at 1080 S Gaylord St., its hours are Tuesday – Thursday 4 – 10 p.m., Friday – Saturday 4 – 11 p.m., Sunday 4 – 10 p.m., closed Monday.
