The Breckenridge Wine Classic returns for its ninth year, offering a curated festival filled with adventure, fine wines and exceptional food pairings. From August 21 to August 23, this high-altitude event invites guests to immerse themselves in the Rockies with guided hikes, sommelier-selected lunches, exclusive local collaborations and a Grand Tasting at 9,600 feet.
The festival prides itself on accessibility—not just in experience but in price. Wine festivals can sometimes feel exclusive or expensive, but this one keeps things approachable and budget-friendly. “This is the perfect festival for first-timers—come try something new and figure out what you like,” said Kristen Slater, Breckenridge Wine Classic event director.
With more than 150 wines to sample, the event has something for everyone. “We’ll be sampling wines you don’t necessarily see on liquor store shelves or in restaurants,” Slater said.
Sustainability is also a major focus in selecting wineries this year. “We have about a dozen wines at the event that are fully sustainable,” Slater continued. Wineries must meet strict guidelines regarding growing practices, composting and more, following a point-based certification system to qualify.
If you’re looking for the can’t-miss event, the Grand Tasting is it. Held at nearly 10,000 feet, this experience allows guests to sample over 100 wines from around the world while enjoying live music and mountain views.
“If you’re picking one event, it should be this one,” Slater said. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just getting started, this is the perfect opportunity to explore new flavors and expand your palate.
If you’re looking to get an extra special night in while you’re up there, be sure to check out Prestige & Pours, a dinner that celebrates the collaboration of talented Colorado chefs and sommeliers. The lineup includes: James Beard Foundation Awards Winner Best Chef: Mountain, Matt Vawter, and James Beard Foundation Awards Semi-Finalist Chef Paul C. Reilly (executive chef and co-owner of Coperta). As well as, Master Sommelier Damon Ornowski of Tellitalia Imports and Certified Sommelier Madison Church. The five-course dinner will transport you to Italy without ever having to leave the ground. Seats are limited so be sure to get your tickets here.
Not into wine? No problem. The festival partners with 8 to 10 distilleries and breweries, including Breckenridge Distillery, offering a diverse selection of beer, spirits and cocktails. Even the most dedicated wine lovers will enjoy mixing things up with these non-wine options.
Breckenridge is known internationally as an outdoor destination, and the festival embraces that spirit. One of its most popular experiences combines adventure and indulgence through an intimate food and wine pairing and hiking event. This event is scheduled for Friday, August 22, and Saturday, August 23.
Guests start at a local restaurant, hike a few miles—often with a winemaker or winery owner—and return for a thoughtfully curated lunch that perfectly complements the wines.
For those traveling from out of town or out of state, it’s important to prepare for the altitude. Slater recommends staying hydrated and eating enough, noting that the festival partners with a dedicated water sponsor each year to help guests adjust to the high elevation.
The Breckenridge Wine Classic takes place August 21 to 23 in various areas of Breckenridge. For the latest updates, visit the official festival website or email the event organizers at info@tppevents.com.
