Cirque du Soleil’s New Show Arrives in Denver this Week

It’s looking to be a good week for circus-lovers, theater-enthusiasts, thrill-seekers and anyone interested in seeing extraordinary performers at the absolute top of their craft. On Saturday, July 12, Cirque du Soleil will land in Denver for its 20th production under the Big Top tent. The show, titled ECHO, will once again present Cirque’s unique combination of extravagant theatrics, inhuman physical prowess and innovative narrative structure for what may be the 41-year-old troupe’s most magnificent production to date.

Without giving too much away, the show centers around a massive dynamic structure called The Cube. The stage shifts alongside performers to tell a story about the symbiosis between humans and the natural world and the large ripple effects that occur from even our smallest actions. With 53 circus performers and nearly 150 total cast, the massive event showcases juggling, acrobatics, hair suspension and fantastic costumery. “It’s really focused on the high-level skills of each artist,” said Henrik Veres, a sixth-generation circus performer who is also one of the show’s main stars.

With performers whose talent borders on magic, the family-friendly event is awe-inspiring for people of all ages. “As an adult, it’s like turning back into a child,” continued Veres. “It’s nice to see that it unifies people.”

While nothing about ECHO is by any means traditional, some acts are more specialized than others. “The casting department will look for unique talent,” said Eddie Browne, a world-class contortionist who says he was contacted by the production after talent searchers found him on Instagram. “Every single act at Cirque has a danger factor. It’s like the Olympics,” added Veres.

Shows will play nightly during the week, with two or even three shows occurring on weekends.

Cirque du Soleil Echo will take place from Saturday, July 12 – Sunday, August 17 in the Big Top Tent in Ball Arena’s parking lot. Tickets are available here.
