Denver Fashion Week Emerging Designer Challenge Fashion Show

The Lowdown: This event is an opportunity for aspiring designers to showcase their talent in an elegant and sophisticated environment. Two designers will be selected to present their collections in the upcoming Denver Fashion Week Spring 2025 season (May 10-18). These designers will be chosen by a panel of judges including two Denver Fashion Week lead producers and local designers, as well as those in attendance who can also vote.

The Lowdown: The Wild Feathers are a rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. Their latest release was 2024’s Sirens. Hip-hop, rap, rock artist and singer Nathan Graham will open.

The Lowdown: Antibalas is an afrobeat band founded in 1998 by Martín Perna. Antibalas is Spanish for “bulletproof,” and the band is based in Brooklyn with many members that play an array of instruments including baritone saxophone, flute, trumpet, flugelhorn, guitar, shekere, congas, drums, bass, trombone, etc. Their last album was in 2020 entitled Fu Chronicles.

The Lowdown: This performance is a special one-night-only event that celebrates Bruckner’s Eighth Symphony, conducted by Peter Oundjian. The Colorado Symphony will perform a version from scholar Paul Hawkshaw — a version that “seeks to restore the original intent of a work Bruckner himself called ‘the most significant…of my life.'”

The Lowdown: Emily Barnes has four albums under her belt, along with a performance at Kerrville Folk Festival. Barnes is now based in Colorado, and her band includes Aaron McCloskey, a former Swallow Hill instructor, on guitar. Texas singer-songwriter Joe Teichman will open.

The Lowdown: This three-day festival, named after the Norse God of Winter – Ullr, is the passion project of Chris and Susannah Thompson. This event brings the community together with Viking regalia, live music, performing arts and craft beer. Attendees can expect some great bluegrass, newgrass, funk and jamband artists. There will be over 30 breweries from across Colorado and nationwide to drink from. Proceeds benefit the Kids Music Project by Coral Creek, which delivers music education and performance to kids in Colorado.

The Lowdown: This chili cook-off is welcome to all, whether you’d like to enter the competition or just be a judge. Those who would like to participate should bring their own slow cooker/serving receptacle filled with chili and a serving utensil, arrive by 12:30 p.m. for setup, name their chili and bring an ingredients list for those with dietary restrictions. Bowls, cups and utensils will be provided for those who are trying and judging the chilis, along with drinks, music and games. All proceeds of this event are going toward the Denver Barbarians Rugby Club to support the team’s travel and other season expenses.

Back to the Future: The Musical

The Lowdown: This cinematic classic is taking the Broadway stage. Back to the Future is the winner of many awards, including the 2022 Olivier Award for Best New Musical and four WhatsOnStage Awards. The musical is adapted by the film’s creators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis and directed by Tony Award winner John Rando with original music by multi-Grammy winners Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard.
