This Week In Concerts – David Byrne, Illenium, Jason Mraz, Shakey Graves and More

Can you believe that we are about to enter the “-ber” months of the year? August was an incredible month for Denver concerts and it is certainly going out with a bang. For this week in concerts, you can expect nothing less than the traditional hustle and bustle of the Denver music scene. We hope you get the chance to get out and explore as many venues in the Mile High City as you can this week.

Monday, August 27

On Monday and Tuesday night, Talking Heads frontman David Byrne is coming to Red Rocks. Byrne’s solo material is a mixture of funk, soul and indie-rock all coming together to make a grooving sound. Earlier this year, Byrne released his most recent studio album American Utopia which includes hits such as “Everybody’s Coming To My House” and “Gasoline And Dirty Sheets.” Tickets are still available for Byrne’s two night Red Rocks run, so grab some while supplies last.

Moving right along to Tuesday night, New York-based R&B artist Teyana Taylor is venturing into Colorado to headline The Ogden. Taylor’s music is hot, fun and will have you grooving to the beat without you even knowing you are. If you’re looking for some recommended listening, check out Taylor’s tracks “Gonna Love Me” or “Rose In Harlem” to get started. Fellow artists DaniLeigh and Denver favorite YaSi are on the bill for the evening as well.

Phish is returning to Colorado in classic Phish fashion for a three-night run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Phish is one of those bands that has an extremely strong and devoted fan base and their concerts are a sight to see. If you are a fan of jam-band style music, any one of their three shows will be worth your while (or go to all three if you think you can handle it). Plus, their festival Curveball in upstate New York was canceled a few weeks ago, due to poor weather and water quality, so the word on the street is Phish will be throwing down big time in Denver. Catch them one of the nights of Labor Day weekend starting Friday and ending Sunday, which means you have three chances to see this band in action.
