Gingerbread Houses, Parade of Dark Beers and Six Other Events This Week

While many of you may still be reeling from Thanksgiving festivities the coming week is full of events to keep the holiday cheer at an all time high. Enjoy the final week of November with several excellent pairings, a lesson on food in film and dining out for a charitable cause. Check out the full list below.

Monday, November 28

Cheese and Cider Pairing at St. Vrain Cidery

Where: St. Vrain Cider, 350 Terry St. #130, Longmont

Cost: $25

The Lowdown: Kick off the week with four cheese and hard-cider pairings, and a homemade cheese making demonstration by Kate Johnson of The Art of Cheese. During this interactive demonstration you will learn the basic art and science behind the cheese making process, including equipment, key ingredients and how to source the best milk for making cheese at home.

Food IN film: A Taste & Learn Evening with Scott Kinnamon

Where: New World Cheese, 2504 East Colfax Ave., Denver

Cost: $20

The Lowdown: Scott Kinnamon, media literacy educator & videographer, will present his thoughts on food in film throughout history. New World Cheese will be serving up light appetizers to compliment this mixed media evening.

Wednesday, November 30

Holiday Mixology Food and Cocktail Pairing

When: Wednesday, November 30, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Where: The Palm at The Westin Denver Downtown, 1672 Lawrence St., Denver

Cost: $75 per person

The Lowdown: Longtime Palm bartender Chad Skrbina will take guests through the the origin and history of four iconic cocktails including an old fashioned, sidecar, martini and margarita while also providing The Palm‘s holiday take on each of them. Chef Marco will provide food pairings for each of the cocktails. Guests will receive recipe cards and a basic bar kit featuring premium spirits from Southern Glazer’s of Colorado.

Thursday, December 1

Dine Out to End Childhood Hunger Day

Where: A variety of participants

Cost: The cost of the meal.

The Lowdown: A selection of Denver’s finest eateries will be donating 10-15 percent of the evening’s sales to Cooking Matters Colorado, helping families on limited budgets gain access to healthy food through budgeting, shopping and cooking skills. Participating restaurants include Departure, Olive and Finch, Black Shirt Brewery and many others. Check out the full list of participants here.

Friday, December 2

Bubbles and Oysters

When: Friday, December 2. 5-10 p.m.

Where: The Infinite Monkey Theorem, 3200 Larimer St., Denver

Cost: Free entry

The Lowdown: Champagne and oysters are classic and lavish. Starting off the month of December with a bit of class, IMT will be popping bottles of their newest release the 2013 Bubble Universe. Marczyk’s will be in the building shucking away and Ejay the DJ will keep the party moving.

Saturday, December 3

Gingerbread House Party

Where: Sugarmill, 2461 Larimer St., Denver

Cost: $74 for one adult and one child

The Lowdown: Sugarmill is providing holiday fun for the whole family. The event will include the house, icing, decorations and chef tips. Kids can enjoy hot cocoa and snacks while adults can unwind with bubbles and wine. Only twenty reservations are available per session, but the event will be available December 4, 10 and 11.

Parade of Darks

When: Saturday, December 3, 1-4:30 p.m.

Where: Turnhalle Room of the Tivoli Student Union, 900 Auraria Pkwy., Denver

Cost: $45

The Lowdown: The fifth annual Parade of Darks is making its return this year to the Auraria campus downtown. The winter beer event will feature a variety of beers ranging from amber to black from the likes of Black Shirt, Epic, Great Divide, Stone and several others. Extending the holiday cheer to the community at large, the event is a fundraiser for Metro Caring, Denver’s leading hunger-prevention and food-waste reduction organization.

Sunday, December 4

Del Frisco’s Seasonal Craft Beer Event

When: Sunday, December 4

Where: Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, 8100 East Orchard Rd., Denver

Cost: $75 per person

The Lowdown: Chef Mario Hernandez will be teaming up with Avery Brewing to present a meal featuring seasonal and craft beers. The four course meal includes shrimp ceviche, duck confit taco, dry aged tomahawk pork chop and triple chocolate cookie skillet each paired with one of Avery’s finest.
