This week in Denver check out a couple events that will allow you to enjoy the outdoors for just a little bit longer before it becomes too cold. Get some fresh air practicing your watercolor skills at Barr Lake State Park, take in a variety of beautiful landscapes with “In Plein Sight” and enjoy one more 5k/10k race in the breathtaking venue that is Red Rocks Amphitheater. The Lowdown: Jefferson County is hosting its first ever plein air event in Open Space Parks. “In Plein Sight” will include a series of free, public events exhibiting privately owned paintings of Open Space Parks. You can watch as plein air artists paint the beautiful Colorado landscapes that surrounds them. 13th Annual Indigenous Film & Arts Festival: ALAMAR

The Lowdown: The International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management is proud to announce the launch of the Indigenous Film & Arts Festival. This event intends to educate the public on the life and culture of indigenous people and the ways in which native intellectual properties and rights can be preserved and protected. The Indigenous Film & Arts Festival uses the film to express who the indigenous people are and who they hope to become.
GMO OMG

The Lowdown: Jeremy Seifert, director of the educational film “GMO OMG,” is looking to find the facts about how GMOs affect our health, our planet and our freedom of choice. Is it possible to change the current food system? Have we come too far to turn back around? This film will take the audience on an explorative journey through Haiti, Paris, Norway, all the way to the lobby of Monsanto. Learn everything you need to know about GMOs and how they affect your life this week at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

The Lowdown: The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is bringing you yet another out-of-this-world experience called the Great Space Escape for Adults. Explore the galaxy under the guidance of a museum “astronerd” while enjoying a drink from the cash bar while never leaving your seat in the museum’s extraordinary Gates Planetarium. A Mercurial Garden Party: MCA Re-Opening

The Lowdown: Due to a water park break, the MCA will be closed through the first week of October for renovations. But good news; the museum is coming back in style. Join the MCA for its fall opening. The Mercurial Garden Party will start this art season off with Kim Dickey, Nathan Carter and the Bodacioussss art exhibit. The party will feature a performance by Pythian Whispers, a DJ set by Killd By, projection mapping and a variety of bars. VIP tickets will include express entry, artist walkthroughs, drink tickets, VIP bathrooms and more.

Dancing with the Survivors

The Lowdown: Dancing With The Survivors is an annual event put on by The Pink Fund in order to celebrate a nationwide community of breast cancer survivors. The event features local breast cancer survivors who are paired with professional dancers from studios across the country. Dancers can invite friends, family and other supporters to donate money that will benefit The Pink Fund’s mission.
Art in the Park

The Lowdown: Art in the Park allows attendees to be visually inspired by the beautiful Colorado landscape that is Barr Lake State Park. Interested guests can sign up to join a watercolor class or simply enjoy the trails and check out what other artists are creating. The event benefits the Friends of Barr Lake program, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the state park in its efforts to educate the public and create an area of recreation.

Run the Rocks 10K & 5K

The Lowdown: Run the Rocks is a unique and annual race that brings the community together to support good lung health and air quality. Runners have the option of participating in either a 5k or a 10k. The race takes places at the beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheater and a free Tivoli beer is offered to participants after the event.
