The Matthew Morris hair salon has long been at the center of emerging trends and style in Denver. This year, Morris and his salon are celebrating 10 years of successful business. Morris, a Denver native, has always shown interest in creative subjects such as art and design. He began his career as a makeup artist, which exposed him to the world of fashion and hair. He started to transition over to hair styling, until a high demand for his work and talent started to increase and allowed him to take it full time. With that, he opened a small hair salon in the South Broadway neighborhood and the rest is history.

The Mathew Morris 10 Year Anniversary show took place on June 4, 2016, and was hosted at Denver’s very own Infinity Park. Doors opened at 7:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour that brought out Denver’s best-dressed crowd. Local bloggers alongside hair enthusiast mixed and mingled, eager to see the show. Morris took this time to announce a third location opening in 2017. Located at Belleview and I-25, his new salon will cater to ever growing Denver Tech Center.

But this event was much more than just a party and runway show. Each year, the Matthew Morris team looks for a way to give back to the community, using these parties as a pedestal for fundraising and raising awareness. For 2016, Morris chose a cause that was very close to his heart.

“This past year whether it was through our clients, family, friends, or colleagues, cancer has affected a lot of us this year. There was no hesitation when deciding to make this year’s beneficiaries The Breast Cancer Fundraiser, and The Pink Lifesaver Mobile Mammogram Bus,” said Morris before the show. In fact, one of their close friends and Breast Cancer fundraiser ambassadors was affected by this herself. All proceeds from the silent auction went to breast cancer charities, as well as proceeds from donors before the show.

It was then time for the show, with hair by Matthew Morris salon and looks by New York City design duo, The Blonds. This NYC brand believes that every woman should be glamorous every day. So it was a pair made in heaven to see such looks accompany Morris’ hair creations. The show kicked off with a dramatic black and white video montage, showing Morris pull up at his RiNo salon with a mission in mind. Inside, he cut and primed a girls hair up into two long, blonde pig tails, reminiscent of rapper Brooke Candy. She posed against a white back drop, ready for the camera as Morris applied his finishing touches.

Before you knew it, the girl in the video appeared on the X shaped runway, dressed in a gem-encrusted bodysuit, who knew pig tails could look so good and high fashion? That first look set the mood for the rest of the show. Glamorous, metallic dresses, jumpsuits, and two pieces made it down the runway to a rhythmic remix of dance and rap music. The girls strutted their stuff alongside male models dressed in neon underwear. Morris displayed his mastery of hair with long blonde up-dos that ranged in style. Thick braids, straight edge pony tails, and clean pig tails were customized for each model, taking into account her face structure, skin color, etc.

The night ended with a typical runway recap of models showcasing the designs and hair for one last time. But since this was the 10 Year Anniversary show, staff members of the Matthew Morris salon took to the runway to show their appreciation for Morris. Gold mylar balloons spelled out “Congrats” as Morris was handed flowers and embraced by his staff and loved ones.
