Underground hip-hop fans just got their dream concert confirmed, as Immortal Technique returns to Denver to headline Cervantes Masterpiece alongside the legendary duo of Jedi Mind Tricks. The two-night show will be hosted on May 13 and May 14, as well as a third show at the Aggie Theater on May 12, 2016. To fans of conscious rap and lyrical talent the names Immortal Technique and Jedi Mind Tricks should sound fairly familiar, as the two artists have been killing the hip-hop industry for over ten years. Technique first gained some notoriety with the release of American Revolutionary Vol 1, which featured the dark and gruesome tale of “Dance with the Devil,” Technique’s most notable song. After turning some heads with his first project, Technique has now established himself in the hip-hop industry as a well-known underground emcee and has amassed a very large following. His release in 2011, The Martyr, was a free compilation album of older songs and tracks that didn’t make it on to previous albums. Technique’s music is very aggressive and carries political undertones. Look for this talented flow and powerful lyrics to transfer over to the stage for a great night of hip-hop.
Jedi Mind Tricks is a headliner for the night as well, and the duo consists of producer Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind and emcee Vinnie Paz. Coming up in the golden age of 90’s hip-hop, Jedi Mind Tricks has managed to gain a huge underground following of fans and continues making music over twenty years into their historical careers. Grouped in with other conscious artists like Immortal Technique and Talib Kweli, Jedi Mind Tricks features a similar political undertone and emphasis on wordplay and lyrics. Jedi Mind Tricks’ latest album, The Thief and the Fallen, was released on June 2, 2015.
If two of the biggest names in underground hip-hop wasn’t enough to excite you, openers for the night are far from unknown. Binary Star is another underground hip-hop duo that has managed to stand the test of time in an ever evolving music industry. While Binary Star will only be along for Friday’s show, Veteran emcee, Chino XL will also join the star studded event for all three Colorado shows.
