Perhaps you’ve heard about the newest local music showcase in town? Some of Denver’s most innovative musicians and performers have been regularly gracing the stage at Cervantes’ Other Side on Monday evenings (since August) for the Monday Night Menagerie. When asked to describe the Monday Night Menagerie — his brainchild — in just three words, Doran Joseph said “Sexy, Funktastic, Excellente.” But he also described it to me as “unique, explosive and relatable.” But who’s counting words? The more the merrier.

A Denver transplant by way of Miami, Doran has been totally blown away by the amazing local musical talent found in the Mile High. He said that sometimes the list of performers at these events was so long, he couldn’t fit all the names on one poster. The incredible lineups, the good vibes and the local love has been attracting great turnouts — especially for a “school night.”

“Nobody does what we do. Nobody loves you as much as we do. Nobody reaches out to make you feel home like we do. Nobody wants your money less than we do.”

The Monday Night Menagerie offers artists an open, honest, welcoming environment to showcase their skills and their passions. From reggae and singer-song writers to dubstep DJs and jam bands, this event is more than a party. There are also a bunch of vendors, aerialists, acrobats, live painters and spoken word poets. It’s a family, a reunion of sorts. A true variety show. These events have cultivated an ever-growing community, gathering each week to support one another, find inspiration and simply let loose.
