Run to the hills. Seriously, grab your things now and leave the office because today marks the beginning of the 53rd Annual Ullr Fest in Breckenridge, Colorado and this festival starts off with a bang. Main Street Breckenridge will soon be blocked off and pedestrians will swarm to the streets with their hot toddy’s and cocoa in tow to watch as the Ullr parade passes by.
Floats crafted by local businesses and their very joyful, sometimes lubricated, staff, climb aboard and shower onlookers with beads and other treats. The entire town is there to party and praise Ullr the Nordic God of Snow and Winter, with the hope that bottomless powder days will be soon to follow.
Kegs, couches and hot tubs have all been towed down Main Street in homage to Ullr. “It’s my duty as a resident to party and praise Ullr; you’ll thank me for the snow,” exclaimed local mountain man, Todd Merz, when asked whether or not he would be joining the festivities this weekend. Don’t miss your shot to be a part of the Breckenridge Distillery’s World’s Longest Shot Ski. Last year’s record boasted 777 drinkers and spanned over 1,250 feet of Breckenridge’s Main Street District.
Ullr Fest has something for every age and all are welcome. Meet the King and Queen, compete in rad winter events, like the Ullr Bike Race presented by Borelais Fat Bikes or prove your Nordic strength at the Ullr Ice Plunge. Do you’re part and celebrate Ullr this weekend so we can all shred that heavenly Colorado champagne pow.
