Summer is finally here and what better to go with those bathing suits and barbecues than the perfect summer cocktail? 303 Magazine talked JP and Monika Krause, owners of Squeal Spiced Black Rum (the official rum sponsor of our Poolside Fashion Show), for some refreshing cocktail recipes.

This Colorado rum won the silver and the bronze medal at the International Denver Spirits Competition and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, respectively, and was rated 91 points by Tasting Panel Magazine.

The couple teamed up with Samantha Woods of Homegrown Tap & Dough and Brad Kaplan of 5280 Flair to create four signature cocktail recipes that we can now share with you. Read on to learn how to make these fun summer drinks.

Mixers

For something simple to mix with this spiced rum, the Krauses said that most typical sodas will mix well, and the bold flavor of Squeal rum prevents it from being lost in the flavor of the soda and adds an interesting element to this simple drink. They also recommend mixing with the classic ginger beer and pineapple juice, saying the sweet and tart flavors of this drink play off the rum nicely.
