139678902The New Year signifies a new journey we’re all about to embark upon together. It can provide second chances and new beginnings to anyone seeking redemption or reinvention. It also means new music, new travel opportunities, new people and the ability to legally procure enough recreational marijuana in our lovely state to keep everyone a little more elevated and a little less cranky.

While you may be exhausted from ringing in the 2014 with back-breaking dance moves and strobing lasers at Decadence, a quad-dose of jams courtesy of Umphrey’s McGee or a holiday weekend of Apples to Apples in your mountain house with friends, I sure hope you’ve saved enough energy for new adventure in the upcoming months.

For a limited time, Steamboat Springs is offering a sweet deal—save 20% on lifts and lodging with the Champagne Powder deal. The special can only be booked through the 31st of January, but vacation date options are open until April 13th.

The Details

In addition to 20% off of lifts and lodging, Steamboat Guests will get a 20% ski or snowboard rental discount offered through Steamboat Ski and Sport shop locations. If booked by January 31st, guests will receive $50 ‘Boat Bucks resort credit for each adult and senior booked on the reservation.

*To get the complete deal, the package requires both lodging and lift tickets for each adult in the party—the price is based on double occupancy in a hotel. A minimum of 3 nights lodging and 3 lift tickets is also required for the discounts.

Best Time to Go

The weekend of February 5th, Steamboat celebrates the beauty of the winter season with its Winter Carnival—a wintery festival aiming to break the winter hibernation patterns with fun, borderline kooky games and events. Crowd favorites include watching children being pulled on skis behind horses and the “Donkey Jump,” which sends children soaring off jumps of 40 to even 50 feet. I’m not completely sure why the children of steamboat are so inclined to be pulled by galloping steeds down a frozen town road, but I’m assuming it has something to do with extra credit or homework passes.

The event ends as a parade of skiers glide down the mountain, illuminated by glowing red lights marking their perfect lines. A man wrapped in lights is the last down the mountain, setting the stage for a closing fireworks ceremony.

Other Things to Do

After a long day of skiing, head over to the Strawberry Park hot springs and soak your worn muscles in the 104 degree waters. On weekdays the park is open until 10:30pm and on weekends they’re open until midnight. Soak up the gentle warmth of the springs while the famous Steamboat champagne powder dusts the wintery wonderland around you. The springs also offer massages, a BBQ grille, outdoor fireplaces and more.
