Innovative clothing line Akomplice has teamed with the J Dilla Foundation and newest rap favorite Joey Bada$$ for a fashionable partnership with a cause. The upcoming collection from Akomplice will unearth previously unreleased music, fresh gear and gives back to the community with 100% of the profits going toward youth with a future in music. Melding the ubiquitous talents of J Dilla with those of up and coming Brooklyn MC Joey Bada$$, the collaborative capsule will bridge the gap between youth and access to music.
Included in the collection is a t-shirt and crew neck design that pays homage to the late producer through an angelic cloud-graphic of Dilla’s face printed across both. The partnership would not be complete without original music, thus the capsule comes with an exclusive 45 containing an unreleased Dilla beat dubbed “Two Lips.” Joey Bada$$ is featured over the beat on the 45’s B-side.
Dilla’s mother Maureen Yancy is giving her full approval of the project in collaboration with Akomplice co-owner Patrick Liberty. Joey describes his involvement as a “dream come true, working with the soul of my favorite producer of all time is an honor.”
Proceeds will go to music programs and purchasing instruments and music lessons for underprivileged kids, the core of the J. Dilla Foundation. The limited capsule collection will be available in 29 countries at select Akomplice retailers and is available now. The complete collection can be viewed here.
