Men’s Style Manifesto: Wax On Wax Off, Falling in Love With Coated Denim

Whether you call it waxed denim or coated denim, getting your denim with a fashionable sheen is one of the hot trends of the season. The perfect compliment to an outfit for a night out on the town for a few drinks or a nice way to add a rocker edge to your casual day-to-day look, the coated jean is a way to be a step above the crowd. The two choices I typically go for are selvage and colored waxed denims.

• SELVAGE WAXED DENIM: whether you want to dress it up or keep it casual, choosing selvage denim is gaining the best of both worlds. The taping on the seams of selvage denim gives a polished finish to your overall look and gives it a crisp appearance.  Adding a navy or gray sport coat gives your look the perfect transition from day to night and makes it “date night” appropriate.  You can also wear your denim with a striped sweater or a chunky knit cardigan for an updated take on the preppy look. • COLORED WAXED DENIM: the perfect way to bring subtle edge to your fall look. A fresh black-coated denim layered with a leather biker jacket gives your look an instant boost of cool. Or keep it simply chic with a plain white tee to channel the rebel within. A gray-waxed denim is a way to add a slight modern edge to your everyday look. Black may be a staple color, but gray is slowly becoming a go-to neutral.
