It is no secret that the globetrotting, consciousness expanding band Thievery Corporation has become a Colorado staple over the past handful of years. Luckily for us, they will be bringing their 15+ person live act back to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for the fourth straight year tomorrow for a night of genre-melding, multicultural groovin’ under the stars. Doors open at 5 pm and tickets range from $42.50 to $100.00 + service charges.
Founding members Rob Garza and Eric Hilton began DJing/producing under the name Thievery Corporation in the mid nineties as a way to combine and express their shared love for a multitude of musical genres including dub, reggae, bossa nova, and jazz. Over the course of almost two decades, they managed to travel the world, collect a rotating and ever-growing cast of internationally renowned supporting artists and high profile guest vocalists, and make music with the intention of shedding light on political, social and human rights issues across the world. The result thus far has been 6 successful studio albums and a signature sound that has been imitated by many but surpassed by none.
Toronto based Art Department and North Carolina based Toro et Moi will be setting the mood for Thievery Corporation and opening out the night at Red Rocks so make sure you arrive early to catch these two up and coming acts because although tomorrow marks both of their first performances on the rocks, I have a feeling it will definitely not be their last.
