At first glance, the ego eradication of yoga might seem the polar opposite of breakdancing’s intrinsic showoff swagger. Anyone familiar with both knows the two disciplines share a few moves, though. Consider side crow pose, which is strikingly similar to one of the most common stalls executed by b-boys in the midst of floorwork. Handstands are present in both places as well. Certified personal fitness trainer and yoga instructor Jordan New is presiding over their wedding today. New is teaching a 2:30 class this afternoon called Urban Flow at Cherry Creek’s Pura Vida Fitness (2955 E. 1st Ave). “Add some rhythm to your flow,” the Facebook invite suggests. Urban Flow will kick off with some body-limbering expansive yoga movement, then delve into foundational breakdance moves that can be incorporated into workouts and dance. Up-rocks, go-downs, footwork, freezes and power moves are all on the agenda. Yogis: break out of your comfort zone and try something New. Breakers: yo, yo, yo, yoga might show ya a thing or two. Today a no-go for you? New’s offering a second installment 2 pm next Sunday at Studio 3sixT (2553 S. Colorado Blvd #109).
