It’s always tough when a local band decides to part ways. Unfortunately for fans of our local scene, there’s a one-two punch to the gut this month as both Sauna and The Don’ts And Be Carefuls have announced final shows.

First, the young buck surf punks Sauna will close things down August 18 at the Larimer Lounge even as the band’s star is still rising. Last year, the band was named Westword‘s Best Band That’s Still in High School, and more recently the band’s video for the infectious “Glitter Party” got some buzz on the blog Stereogum. But now the kids are packing it in. Fortunately they’re going out with a sunkissed bang closing out their all too short careers as Sauna with Bad Weather California and The Dirty Few. As young as the members of Sauna are, we can always hold out hope that they will resurface down the line as part of some other high-energy, lo-fi group. For now, get psyched for the send off with the aforementioned video for “Glitter Party.”

Two weeks after saying so long to Sauna, swing by the Hi-Dive to catch The Don’ts and Be Carefuls’ farewell performance August 31.

Over four years, the quartet has been unleashing fun tracks for everyone to dance to. The band’s perfectly crafted indie pop will be sorely missed. Last year’s Sun Hits EP displayed a band at peak performance, shredding through hook-laden gems like “The Still Favorites” and “So Money.” It seemed, based on that release, that the band was poised for big-time success. Unfortunately for us fans, The Don’ts and Be Carefuls are saying goodbye.

Before you start crying, polish up those dancing shoes because the band’s last show is gonna be a doozy.

With performances by Hindershot, I Sank Molly Brown, and Kissing Party, it’s sure to be a blast. If they can make a bar mitzvah look this fun, imagine the kind of craziness they’ll bring to the Hi-Dive.
