Catwalk for a Cause: A Night of Fashion, Art and Awareness

On Saturday, August, 11, Asteria Salon put on a fashion and hair show, Catwalk for a Cause. The event showcased fashion, art and awareness, as it brought together Denver’s best to raise money and support for Transitions Global.

Founded by James and Athena Pond, in 2006 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Transitions Global helps to restore the lives of young girls rescued from sex trafficking with the power of a dream. Not only does each girl at Transitions receive personalized care to heal from her past, she is provided with opportunities for her future. A girl who finds her home at Transitions is enabled to discover a new beginning. She regains hope with holistic trauma therapy, life skills training and sustainable career skills. Their mission is guide girls’ through a transition with the power of a dream, to transform from darkness to light and from victim to survivor to world changer. Each ticket purchased for Saturday night’s event went directly to the Transitions Global fund.

The show was held at Consortium 816, art gallery in the Denver Art district. The small gallery created an intimate feeling, with a catwalk in the middle of the gallery decorated with red rose petals, each guest had a clear, comfortable view of the hair and clothes. And boy can Asteria Salon do hair! From basic updos, to 60s inspired mod, to big blown out hair, they incorporated braids, added feathers and other small unique details to each style. Even the male models had their own styled hair, from slicked back to an updo of braids. Asteria Salon also did the makeup for the show and with Cambodia on their mind, “tribal” inspired face painting gave a free-spirited look to each girl and guy walking the catwalk. Each model’s clothing represented a different local boutique, such as UMBA, Trendz, Apricot Lane, House of Stilettos and Jennifer Lane Designs.

The show not only displayed hair, makeup and clothes, guests were able to view the works of Francisco Guillermo Argueta, Carl Schembri, and Belgin Yucelen which are on display now in the Consortium 816 gallery. With a performance by ProJect Aspect, this fashion and hair show was an amazing success. The wonderful charity, Transitions Global, has changed so many girls lives, and with the help of Asteria Salon and Catwalk for a Cause they will continue to do so.
