Fashion Fridays – Fashion’s Philanthropy

Ah, the holiday season. The time of year when families come together. When Starbucks brings back beverages that taste like Christmas on crack. And, when stores tempt with “the perfect gift.” And, that’s where the problem begins.

Often I’ve found that “the perfect gift” ends up being something I, personally, can not life without. Fess up people, I know I’m not the only one that does some present-giving to myself during the holiday season. There must be others that succumb to the seasonal shopping lure.

Thank goodness  I’ve discovered Community Collection. The genius website blends fashion with philanthropy – two of my favorite things! The online retailer features top brands, which are sold in support of the causes they love most, with at least 20% of the proceeds going to their charity of choice. Now you can shop without feeling guilty!

Brands like Elizabeth and James, Tibi and Lulu Frost, to name a few, have all joined the charitable couture community. Charities range from Pencils with Promise, which builds schools in the developing world and Operation USA, which assists developing communities here and abroad in addressing problems relating to natural and man-made disasters and chronic poverty to Heal the Bay, which advocates cleaning up with Santa Monica Bay and the American Cancer society.

I just love being able to give and receive!

I can’t resist a blush colored shift dress. This one from Tibi with black lace panels on the sleeves is perfect for a holiday party. The dress retails for $396, with $80 going to College Access Plan charity.

I’ve long loved Lulu Frost’s art deco inspired jewels. These earrings are perfect for the holidays – or anytime! They retail for $360, with $72 going to Pencils with Promise.

Perhaps my favorite outwear company of all time, Mackage really knows how to do a chic and classic jacket. I love the leather and fur trim on this otherwise basic winter coat. It retails for $890, with $178 going to Operation USA.

Gemstones of all kinds are rocking the fashion world right now. This necklace iteration by Alexis Bittar is modern and funky. It retails for $495, with $99 going to Flying Kites Global.

When it’s winter, I want to look cozy and cute. This chunky cowl neck sweater from ADAM accomplishes just that. It retails for $395, with $79 going to the American Cancer Society.

Elizabeth and James has to be one of my favorite brands out there right now. This mullet style burgundy dress is simple, but still has some edge. It retails for $765, with $153 going to Heal the Bay.
